Description
In this MicroLesson (ML055) you’ll learn how to play the rhythm to lesson EP256. This is a slow and laid back, R&B style rhythm that’s played in a minor key. I’ll explain all of the strum patterns that are used as well. Also, be on the look out for a magical, disappearing pug. 🙂

Hi Brian,
The” disappearing and appearing pug” was hilarious! He sleeps through the lesson and then wakes up and jumps off the couch at the end, is that a signal for a walk?
By the way, awesome lesson, I jumped right into it!
Many thanks!
JoLa
Brian says
haha – yeah that was strange that he jumped up and walked off at the end – perfectly timed. it was so strange that i left it in the video 🙂 i guess we’re just in sync 😉

Hi Brian,
Many thanks for this lesson! I loved it! One of my favourite Micro-lessons.
The walk-down at bars 13 – 16 reminds me of a similar walk-down in Oye Como Va by Santana.
Cheers,
Rich F.

I think if it was in Am it be like Johnny Rivers Summer Rain, too!

Hey Brian – I had a laugh at the pug waking up just as the show finished. I know the problem – I sit down to watch aTV program or movie I’m keen to see – and invariably wake just as the credits begin rolling at the end.
Thanks for another great MicroLesson by the way. Great rhythm track and some nice little take-aways.

Easy to catch and enjoyable I should say but unfortunetly my dreadnouhgt acoustic guitar the neck deformed a few Mm so the strings got a little high from the fretboard and to play now I have to use too much strenght with the left hand which turns it a little bit hard and unpleasant … whatever I must carry on most of the time with my telecaster which works nicely, and by the way great song to play

In various from this pattern is in a lot of music and it sounds very dramatic. Thank you for demystifying it. Can’t wait to get it going.

Terrific Brian. BTW, love the vintage receiver in the background. What brand?
Canadian Lefty says
p.s. As I was playing through it and hit the G7#9, it put me in mind of Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Nice Stuff in any case.

Thank you Brian…this indeed was one of those “hand him a guitar and he plays something new and unexpected.” I found that I was laying down some lead phrases and it turned into quite a duet with my friend….thanks again!

Thaks Brian,, great lesson. I would like to see more rythem lessons like this one. Also maybe you couĺd cover how to end a song, most of yours just seem to stop unexpectedly, like this download.

Exactly the type of thing I’ve been looking for. Thank you. Cute dog too. 😁

So helpful!
If your looking for a play along track for this progression try Boz Scaggs “Somebody loan me a dime” from his first album . It’s long slow and soulful with great guitar solos by Muscle Shoals master Eddie Hinton and Duane Allman that perfectly illustrate Brian’s blues solo lessons in various tempos. key of A
“Greatest hits live” is even slower

Very clearly explained as ever, terrific !
But back to the pug, Arlo ?, wonderful ! My dog also goes to sleep when I play but I think it’s her way of excluding sound without losing touch with me: the minute I put the guitar down, she’s up with a look of relief on her face saying “thank God that’s over, now what are we doing next ?”

reminds me a bit of Roy Clark Yesterday when i was young, fun to noodle

Thanks Brian, I am new here but was able to catch on to this right away. Even though I have just been here a couple weeks my timing is certainly improving.

Another great lesson, Brian! This is one of my first time playing with a jam track. I just need to make that Hendrix chord quicker.

Hi Brian, is this the rhythm for over EP056 or EP256? It say EP256 but you say EP056. Thanks and great vidoes.
Alex says
I think you’re correct, that he meant to say EP256.
