Description
In this MicroLesson (ML018), you’ll learn a new twist on a classic Chuck Berry style rhythm that allows you to easily play the 7th note along with the chord. There’s also a rhythm fill that is played between each chord change.

Simple but very effective. Thanks Brian. Hard to sing to though. Gonna write a little letter and mail it to my local DJ,…

Hey Brian, thanks again for all of your amazing lessons and inspiration. How can I get an active melody t-shirt?
PJR says
Very cool. My fingers can stretch that far higher on the neck. Had tried the pinky stretch lower down for a different riff but couldn’t manage the wider frets.
Thanks Brian

I was struggling yesterday trying to get the higher notes barring three notes (my action is probably higher than on Brian’s guitar),then discovered I don’t have to apply pressure on the bar throughout just when I need the higher notes (at the very last minute). I don’t know if that can help anyone?
I can now sing along with the riff on the Roll over Beethoven chorus but it is still a bit more awkward on the verses.

I hasten to add that I am struggling because I am playing the tune in G (to suit my voice). In the key of B, as played by Brian, it is a lot easier.

I like learning how to find the lower positions in in this key ..limited reach for bars using my AP 70 12 th fret meets body..like the extra two frets on the Gibson..20frets AP 70 only 18 frets.. all I can do camping!

Hi Brian,
Great lesson. That 7th on the major scale isn’t that a minor 7th or a flattened 7th?
Lynne R says
Yes it is the b7 of the B7 chord
