awesome! Part 3. Thanks Brian.
Keith R says
why did you stop showing the scales and positions ,this really would have helped , please add to this lesson explaining it thx
Michael H says
Keith ,the explanations, scales, chord shapes as Brian mentioned are in the previous two lessons.
This lesson is the application of those concepts in a I IV V chord progression.
Michael Allen says
I love it when your lessons build on each other. thanks for all of your hard work.
Michael L says
Great series of lessons Brian! Thanks!
Yes, it’s a lot, and it takes time and diligent practice, but it seems to me that if one wants to play guitar, this is the path. This is it folks! Enjoy the journey!
Jimmy W says
Great series Brian. Worth the price of admission. D Mixolydian would be key of G, i think. Please let me know if I am right. Thanks
James W says
I think you are right! But of course Brian can give the official answer.
Scott R says
That was my answer too but I have a bad habit of doing that backwards. I think after his previous lessons on modes It might be sinking in. Let us know Brian and thanks again.
Tim C says
Very informative lessons Brian , things get easier and click more everyday . Always appreciate all you do , sir! Thank You.
Michael H says
Excellent
Love the Garcia Bo Didley vibe
You definitely delivered.
Did u always envision the 3 part series or did come together organically?
I have to say u looked a bit tired
I’m sure I am not alone in feeling grateful for the work u put into this.
Brian says
Organic 🙂
Daniel H says
Brian, I always appreciate your pep talks at the end of a lesson… especially when have just given us a drink from a firehose! . . . so many useful ideas! This was great three part series. Thank you!
Jim M says
So much wonderful information in this series. Thank you.
Paul N says
Thanks Brian, the mini series was great!
Raymond P says
Nice 3-part mini-series. I learned a lot and got some great ideas from these lessons two.
Thanks Brian.
Kenneth p says
love the lesson Brian, who is the maker of your stap and where did you get it?
slopace says
Brian, you outdo yourself with every new lesson. They just keep getting better and better! My guitar playing skills have improved beyond belief because of your great teaching skills!
Robert Burlin says
Same for me and the sounds coming out of my guitar.
For 40 years I played and practiced and performed and
always felt something was missing from how
I wanted to sound and should sound, especially after
all the day years and months of hard work.
There is nothing missing anymore!
Much respect to the sensei
Rick C says
I never knew how to play more than pentatonics. I was able enough for our podunk jams… but.. they became ‘not expressive’.
Learning how Brian does things is like going from 100 words of a language to thousands.
I’m old and retired, but even so the Muse sings, she really does.
As Robert Burlin said above: Much respect to the sensei
Thanks Brian.
Wayne S says
My last lesson thank you for these last 3 on Caged really brought it together..thank you so much for all the material and learning ..Cheers Brian
Vernon says
G Major
Wil W says
Brian,
thanks for this lesson and the the other two lessons on the CAGED system. And for sharing your knowledge about subject with us. It makes everything a lot easier to understand. You’ve convinced me that it is important to play “with your ears”. That is the next thing I am going to work on.
Dan S says
Can I make a suggestion ? Is it possible to included those fretboard patterns along with the tabs ?
I find myself constantly looking around for those fretboard patterns which are relevant to the tabs.
Michael H says
Hi Dan
IMO you would be doing yourself a huge favor if you get comfortable reading Tab.
Mark H says
This lesson, coupled with the previous two lessons have helped me to identify some holes I need to remedy in my theory knowledge and execution. Brilliant work Brian, thank you so much.
Tom M says
These are great instruction sets. So much to learn and so little time!
Kevin S says
Really excellent suite of lessons. Thanks for the work you do. Much respect!
David Walker says
I thought his series was excellent. My problem (I sure I’m not alone) is how to retain this wealth on information. I assume it just with time but as a senior beginner, some of that is running out LOL
Matthew M says
You’re not alone David! 45 years old here and long-time hobby player. One day I have something nailed, flying on the fretboard, a week later it’s gone and I’m fumbling to get it back. Arggh!
mritalian says
G major , D is the 5 of what scale. Great job Brian. Modes were always made confusing for me from others. Your a great teacher.
Keith S says
I find it very helpful to have the TAB shown during the lesson. I print out the tab sheet, go back and make notes on it as i review the video.
Jim J says
Same here Keith. Then I put the tab sheet on my music stand and practice from that, and go back to the video when needed. And I do go back to the video a bunch, LOL. The tools Brian gives us is fantastic and I use most all of them. Brian’s great!
Ed L says
Your instruction has made me a better guitarist and has opened new musical styles to explore as well. I am grateful for having access to your knowledge, experience and your wonderful lessons. Thank you.
Douglas R says
Brian
Are you changing from A mixolydian to D mixolydian as you change chords or just staying in the scale of the song as you change chords?
D mixolydian would be the key of G major. It would also be A Dorian.
So do you play A Dorian over the A parts and the D mixolydian over the D ?
This has always confused me.
Brian says
i’m switching to D mixolydian for the D part
Nick Ll says
From A ionian?
Douglas R says
And is the A part done in A Dorian or A mixolydian?
Max d says
Great three lessons. Pity we’re moving on so quickly, but that’s the beauty of being a subscriber to ActiveMelody… I can always go back and practice! Thank you Brian.
Joseph F says
So glad I learnt this one. The motion has provide new ideas and hand confidence. Brian I take all your lessons to heart and haven’t been more impressed in online content that your services. It seems like you teach simple stuff(cause you present it that way) but it always turns out to be classy and very very useful down the road. Much appreciated.
Mark S says
Just fantastic as usual Brian – my playing has really come along in the last few years in no small part to your excellent instruction. I may not sound that great yet but I understand what I’m playing!!
Steve says
Brilliant set of 3 lessons, the last 1 stretched my mind a bit in the right way, am going to keep coming back to these, starting to really appreciate mixolydian as a scale reference over ionian.
Alan L says
What a fun lesson! This was in the “impossible!” Category after my first listen. But I’m working on it about 65-70 bpm and it’s totally achievable 🙂
James W says
If you can play lead but struggle with rhythm like me that ep086 Bo Didley lesson is really great. Great lesson this week to tie at all together.
Dennis E says
Ok got a question. You said youre playing B CAGED Chords throughout the song here but using ” Mixoylidian mode for all the licks. So the lead stuff is in F? The 5th of the Key of B? Cant be in B mixolydian because that would be using the notes in the E major which would clash with the the B chords? Unless its just the 1st and 5th notes which uts not, its the whole triad i thk. Or am I just not getting something? Please help, really stuck on this. Anyone? I know Brian doesnt alqays have time to answer these. Thanks Dennis
Andrew Davey says
keep re visiting all your lessons Brian its a great library to fall back on and I keep seeing things that I over looked before there is so much that you pack into a lesson its slowly sinking in
I must be a very slow learner but its getting there
