Description
In this blues guitar lesson, you’ll learn how to play a Robert Cray influenced lead on electric guitar in the key of A. This is played over an 8 bar blues. You’ll learn several Robert Cray signature licks and more importantly, you’ll learn the scales that these licks come from so that you can apply them to your own playing and use them when improvising.

Oh Boy!!! Another great one… Now what do I do!!
oh yesssss another great lesson..thank you
ale
Thank you Brian!! Agree with you on Robert Cray and his legacy! I had the good fortune of meeting him several times at his home on my old route.
Can you explain the pickups and thier configuration on that beautiful Stratocaster? thanks!
Back to the Blues! Yea! Good lessons, Brian. You put out some good riffs to build on. Like you said earlier, some like to play your lessons verbatim ac litteratim, and some (like me) like to improvise. That’s why my old music teacher “fired” me when I was a teenager over 50 years ago. The old Spanish maestro would yell “play la música as it is written” – but I didn’t want to do that! I wanted to add my own “stuff” and make it my own. Best regards, Charley D., Houston, TX.
Hey………..if you guys like this lesson then head back to the future with what I refer to as Brian’s “LEGO” series and check out LEGO28!! Jim C.
so good.
excellent lesson Brian….not sure what adjectives t use any more…….thanks
Great lesson, been a big fan of Young Bob for years. Thanks Brian
A belter. So many great lessons so little time.
Thanks Brian.
I have bin after you for another cray lesson for about a year now
I have to say it was worth the wait thanks Brian.
Enjoy the lesson, guys. I’m waiting for the next great, acoustic blues solo lesson. More my style.
sweet.
Love “In The Style Of” Blues! Thank you Tom Spy
Love the lesson and style, had to make several correction to the tab though. If you compare the part 1 and 2 video to the tab and make minor notes. You will get more out of it.
And I’m not Complaining about the tab, just making a point if you practice this with tab you will benefit to make minor notes.
Your work just keeps on getting more and more delicious Brian. We are spoilt for choice-a big thank you.
Rob
Brian,
I need you to do this. 1 4 5 in A but center on the chord change. Which note/s do we need to be at, at the change? Also the difference between the first 5 and the turnaround 5. Thats what Im after. Can you help?
this “wowed me” didn’t even start this yet but listening and watching Brian play it is too cool!
this is a keeper for me. very simple and easy to understand- but great sounding and it is easy to apply in other keys….-..like the so called “smokin gun!”
thank you Brian!! Another great one!! I’m learnin more than i expected.. thx so much!!
How do I print out the actual music, (notes in music notation) plus the tab near the bottom of the lesson?
Just watched it Great sounding blues thanks
Good lesson Brian
Being as to how Robert Cray is one of my top 5 all time favorite bluesmen (love Richard Cousins as well on bass), I am extremely pleased that you posted this lesson Brian. Thank you so much. Had a blast learning it. MORE ROBERT CRAY PLEASE!!!

so, years later i nominate this as one of the best jam tracks. I love the lesson as well.
Hi Brian
Have you ever heard “Freight Loader” by Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page? I think it was done in ’65. I would love it if you covered that piece some day!

Love Robert Cray’s music, one of my heroes on guitar and vocals!
