Description
When I first heard Robert Cray I remember having a hard time processing what he does because it’s really unlike anyone else’s approach to playing blues guitar. To my ear, he’s a perfect mix of old school Chicago blues mixed with James Brown funk, with some country twang thrown in for good measure. He’s one of those artists that grows on you over time and the more you listen, the more you discover just how deep his stuff goes (actually I’ve noticed that the best artists / songs are usually the ones that you don’t fall in love with immediately). So to me Robert Cray just HAD to be included in this blues guitar artist series I’ve got going on. This lesson is intended for intermediate to advanced guitar players, although there are some parts that a beginner will be able to pick up and learn. As with all of the lessons, I’m not showing you how to play any particular part of a song, instead I’m writing my own jam tracks and playing some of the things I’ve learned from each artist. There were way too many Robert Cray licks to choose from so I just pulled out some of my favorites (and the ones I knew I could do without screwing up)

Love this video as well, haven’t had a chance to tell you but thanks for the BB King follow up. Any chance of a vibrato technique lesson? You mention how important it is, and I have a basic vibrato going, but it’s always nice to see another technique. Anyway, great site, its very helpful.

Love these Lessons, Brian does us all a great service providing them, Thank you Sir… Any possibilities of a Gary Moore lesson. I just learned of his sudden death in Spain in Feb. What a tragity I loved his tone and feel. Thanks again Brian for the Great help you provide… I’ve been playing for 40 years and stayed away from lead cause I JUST DIDN’T GET IT. Lately I’ve bought another Strat and doing pretty good now especially after finding all these great tools here.
Old and in the Way (but still young at heart)
