Description
To celebrate this week’s 200th episode (EP200), I wanted to create something big. I considered my options for an “epic” lesson this week and decided it would be much better to create a whole new section of the website to address smaller chunks of guitar information that I can share each week! I’m calling these new lessons “MicroLessons”, just think of them as bite-sized lessons. I will continue to create the in-depth lessons each Friday, but these MicroLessons will now be offered on Tuesdays in addition. Here’s the link to the new MicroLessons section.

Wow I checked out the 12 micro lessons and they are awesome ! Also I think it’s not only fantastic that you started these on line lessons ( thanks for making it more about theory ) I think it will be and is informative and rewarding for all levels of guitar players because like you said in a previous lesson ” you never stop learning ” and one thing I learnt was just because I am turning 70 this year I can still play up to speed with most of your lessons ! I skipp around a lot when I get bored with the theory but I keep going back and learning stuff from your beginners course !
So great Big ” Congratulations ” on an excellent job and 200 lessons of hard work ! We appreciate you , your time and effort ! Keep up the great work

Congratulations Brian and Thank You, too. You have created what must be one of the best guitar sites on the web – and it keeps getting better. The micro lesson section plus the extended versions are a huge thing, because it allows scholars with a little less time at their hands to add increments to their toolbox. And as we know increments add up over time. Thanks again and Happy Eastern to all fellow AMers.

Brian,
Congratulations on reaching this 200 lesson milestone! My guitar playing has really improved since I found your site and that’s a testament to your natural teaching skills and the great variety of lessons that you offer.

MicroChill, Checked out the micro lessons and I feel the presentation is much too frenetic. I realize the goal is a one minute limit but calm down and you can still meet that target. Perhaps reduce the amount of words. Relax so I don’t have to look over my shoulder every 10 seconds to see if someone is chasing me.
Brian says
Joe, that’s why I included the extended version for each of them.
joe c says
Very cool I now noticed the xt versions, thanks

Well done on reaching the 200 Brian
I like the idea of the micro lessons. I really enjoyed a short lesson you once did (think you were moving house at the time?). It was a simple acoustic blues turnaround in A but it was cool and I used to end up playing it a lot. I cant find it now feel free to recycle it .
mcnessa says
Fantastic!!! Congrats on the big 200. Really looking forward to the micro lessons because I don’t always have time to sit down for a full lesson.
sciencefiction says
Way to go, Brian! These MicroLessons are a stroke of genius! Self-contained little nuggets that you can dig into at any time–and learn quickly! I’ve listened to all twelve, and all sound great. They don’t seem rushed at all to me–prefect presentation speed.
So, even if even if you don’t have time to learn a regular (big) lesson consistently, you can always fall back on these MicroLessons and keep advancing. Already for me, this is a much appreciated new feature. Have an extra half-hour or hour of spare time and want to learn something new that sounds cool and is self-contained, then go to MicroLessons!!

G/day from Downunder, Brian,
Just like everyone else, I want to offer my sincere appreciation for all that you do week in, week out.
For myself, I have been able to pick up so much stuff(Nuggets) that I’ve never known before, and the really great thing is that I now pick up a guitar and take time to play almost every day.
I get so much satisfaction and enjoyment from all of this, and it’s very much from your motivation, your knowledge and ability as a player/tutor that I’m at where I’m at.
So big thanks from me, thanks for the new mini lessons, great work on the 200 milestone, and long may it continue coz I’m along for the ride.
Thanks again, mate!

Congrats on 200 lessons Brian! I know I’ve learned an enormous amount from you and can say without a shred of doubt that without Active Melody I’d still be stuck in ‘eternal noodling’ mode. So congrats again and I’m looking forward to the next 200.

Ditto to all the other congratulations on the 200 milestone! Fun stuff for sure.
Watched most of the micro lessons too. Great idea. One request though is that in the extended version you could walk through the count of lick. I can mostly figure them out from the tab, but feel it would help as you walk through (I suppose it might extend this version slightly). Thanks.

Joining the chorus, MicroLessons are mighty fine. Only thing small about them is the package, and (probably repeating a dozen previous comments) good things come in small packages.
The blues rhythm was something I already play in a slightly different form, but it was good to see the natural 7 in the lead-up, something I had reservations about.

Hi Brian,
I like this micro concept. I think I first signed up with you about 4 years ago?
I had a 1979 Gibson 335 clone and promised myself if I stuck it out a year I would buy a Fender.
Thanks, you have cost me lots of $ 😉 – A Fender Stratocaster, KRK Monitors, Apple Mac, Logic and Line 6 etc.
I knew little more than a chord back then but now I solo with ease.
I like learning little bits, putting them together and coming up with my own compositions.
I never thought I could play Clapton solos and now I can.
Cheers,
JazzySammy

Hi Brian
Want to add my own congratulations as well for breaking through the 200 barrier. When I rekindled my latest effort to learn the guitar, my ambition was limited to learning to recite a few pieces. I never imagined I’d be able to pick the thing up and improvise on it! Discovering Active Melody changed everything. I’ve learnt so much since becoming a member and more importantly it’s been terrific fun. Still a long way to go for me but now I’ve got the micro lessons which are a great addition to dip into as well as the weekly lessons, so no excuse for not improving 😊
Great stuff!

Congratulations Brian!
I’ve subscribed to this site for just over a year now and am so thankful to have found it after too many long lost years of not playing guitar since high school. I started playing at 9 years old and by the time I was 13 already won two 1st place (1970 and 1972) and one 2nd place (1971) finish at the Ottawa Music Festival in classical guitar.
Unfortunately, I did not pursue playing since a bit of electric guitar during my teens, however, thanks to an old and close buddy of mine who I had not seen since high school but when reacquainting with a few years ago kicked my ass and told me to pick up the guitar and come out and jam again.
Now at 58 years of age, playiing guitar and coming to this site are what soothe my soul as I battle through some ongoing health issues these past ~3 years…
So glad that I’ve found you Brian. I have learned more from your lessons in the past year than in all of my teens!
Looking forward to what lies ahead but still have so much to absorb from what you’ve already produced…

Brian, thank you so much for your lessons..
