I love Funk rhythm. This lesson reminds me of “Sissy Strut” by The Funky Meters. Excuse the English but being from New Orleans, ” I love me some Funk”! Thanks Brian

Glenn W says
Yea me too. So much for me to learn and expand on in EP437. But this lesson will be a nice break from it.

Hi Brian, Video Tablature Breakdown is not working. It stops after the first Line. Could you check the soundslice upload please. Would be great to have it as the rhythm is quite a challenge and Video with Tab would be certainly helping me. Many thanks. Greetings from Germany. Alex
Alex says
Hi Brain, just changed my setting on my iPad and now it is working. Cool stuff man – I love it. Many thanks for this nice piece of music. Cheers, Alex
charjo says
Brian, in the part 1 video you say to start the rhythm on beat 2. In the slow playthrough and both tabs you start the rhythm on the & of 1, ie. on an upbeat. I couldn’t make the rhythm work until I noticed that, especially going into the rhythm the second time . Wonder if it is confusing others.
John
Brian says
i guess i miscounted in the video. damn
Denny B. says
I looked up the chord at 2:50 mark on the premium video. You are playing G B C so it’s actually a “G add 4.”
Lyn C says
Interesting.. I tried it on acoustic with a pick up- sounds ok! Never thought of trying funk type music before, but there are some useful skills to learn here like the palm muting and sticking to the lower strings.
Hannes Z says
Great! Love it.
Thank you Brian.
Jim M says
Brian you are constantly expanding my musical journey.

I’m could play this all day long! The staccato/muted vibe is my go to bc it just feels good. Thanks for some great ideas to play around with.
Klaus N says
Love the lesson Brian! The chord in bar 10 it a Cadd#11 and implies a Lydian sound – very nice! BTW: I’d love to see a lesson on the Lydian mode from you! If I’m not mistaken there is none in the lesson archive.

Super lesson again !

Cool cool cool 😎!!!
Looking forward to learning this! Nice to break out from the Blues now and then to expand our guitar vocabulary!
We are listening to a new radio station in the UK at the moment… Heart 70’s.. and they play a oot of this style 1970s funk and similar…
Superstition Stevie Wonder (which I am learning at the moment)
The brilliant “Long Train Running” by the Doobie Brothers
“Pick up the Pieces” by the Average White Band
Just listened to Cissy Strut by the Meters… brilliant..
And my personal favourite… Climax Blues Band.. “Couldn’t get it right”… (sounds like a description of my guitar practice, especially when pressing the red button!)

Bob Utberg says
Hey Brian! Happy New Year!! I’m getting ready to dive into this great lesson! Question: At 11:44 of your vid, you say that “it comes in on ‘two’ “. Your TAB says (and the sound of it says) it comes in “on the AND of one”. Which is it so I don’t start off wrong and have to relearn it. Is it a case of the first measure is in 5/4 time? I’m confused – LOL!!! Let me know please. Thanks, Bob
Bob Utberg says
LOL – I just saw John’s post above. All good my friend! Bob
