Description
In this guitar lesson, you’ll start by learning how to strum a funky blues rhythm on the first 3 strings. You’ll then learn the “call-and-response” technique of playing a rhythm, followed by a lead. I’ll give you several “response” lead examples and show you the scales I’m using so that you can improvise your own leads if you want. In the Part 2 video I’ll focus more on lead and how to switch scales as the chords change.

Hey Brian! This reminds me quite a bit of EC’s era with good ole Bonnie & Delaney………….which of course certainly ain’t a bad thing……..but I immediately loved your very different change you make……..keeping things off the typical pathways……..very cool!! The main beat…F-G…….reminds me quite a bit of the great George Thorogood!!

This lesson came right on time. I’ve been playing blues and rock for 20 years when I heard some funk on a youtube channel. I have to get some in my bag.

Nice lesson, Brian, on my list.
Here’s a transcript of Joe Pass, playing some of the same type of licks for anyone advanced enough to cop them (although it crosses my mind that anyone capable of working from this transcript is doing fine without it, I thought there might be some interest).

Here’s my latest frustration. I spend a week or so learning one of your great pieces. Then I move on to the next. Within a few weeks I can’t remember how to play anything other than the one I’m working on. How the heck to I keep these in my repertoire? Just me or a common thing?

I feel for you.. everybody needs to crawl before they can walk you need to learn what it is you are playing to remember ..most of what Brian teaches here is really BASIC..study alittle theory..learn your notes on the fret board your maj min and 7th chords etc… without understanding a bit of theory you will not understand what it is you’re playing..it is a language ..most of what Brian teaches is pretty easy stuff but I find plenty here to learn ..it will take about two years to develop the skills needed so yes it is a common thing.
sunburst says
.As easy as it is, I’m learning what it is I’m playing.. enjoy listening to what you are teaching/explaining what it is too..rather rush through with the tab

Hi Brian,
In part one at 22:15, is the quick bar across GBE on fret 12 just the typical bit where you momentarily play the 4 chord?
Thank you
