Description
First, let me just say a huge THANK YOU for your continued support of ActiveMelody and helping me to reach this monumental milestone. We’re now at over 300 in-depth guitar lessons! I know it sounds clichè, but I could not have done it without you. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!!
Instead of a typical lesson this week, I’ve decided to revive MicroLessons and create a MicroLesson (ML056) instead. Here’s a link to the new MicroLesson
EP300

YAY! Love the micros.
Congrats Brian! Love your lessons every week….still trying to learn fingerstyle! can’t wait to dive in to this week!
You did it Brian. I’ve been along for about 2/3rd of the way and you have improved but every lesson has been value and more so fun. You make the lessons something to look forward to.
Congratulations Brian!! You’re really good at this and I hope I’m still learning on this site when you get to EP 600. Thanks for everything.
Congrats Brian,
What you do is terrific. I seen so many on line instructors for guitar and either they cannot explain, have a too big ego, are annoying to look at more than 1 lesson, or other shit. Your lessons are the right mix of teaching, motivation and inspiration and you get the message over to us. fantastic.. Keep going on like this. For me you are by far the best. Btw I am a retired educator. I know what I am talking about. Just not about guitar playing, that’s why I subscribed to you. And micros: I love m too!
Erik v B. Netherlands
I so agree with what Erik V says. I have tried for 7 years to get my act together playing the blues & have just not been able to connect the dots, but the other day playing Lesson 297 I had an epiphany & it was your instruction that helped me start understanding that you can use so many different notes to tie together your leads & chords. Your style is a thing of beauty— Thanks Brian I’ll be a member for a long time to come.
Doug
Thank you so much Brian! You are the only online instruction that I go back to week after week.
Look forward to the next hundred and any other lessons you do.
Cheers mate.

Great Job Brian, You have given us a wide variety of lessons to choose from and have made me a better player. Keep up the good work for years to come.

congrats on 300, been a member for several years and tell all my friends to sign up, your the best, keep up the good lessons and we will follow.
congratulations on 300!
really happy about the Micro lessons. I figured you were most likely overwhelmed doing as much as you were but I really enjoyed them and looked forward to them. I understand you will not be doing them as often but I think we all are glad they are returning. thanks!
Emintun
Your a natural teacher my friend, that what shines threw.
GREAT MILESTONE for a great website and teacher!
I am a retired band director who taught music for 40 years. I look at a lot of You Tube guitar related stuff. But for learning new songs no one can touch what you do. The lessons are easy to understand and taught in such a way that it is not frustrating. So many guys are doing guitar stuff on You Tube that are great players but don’t have a clue how to teach. I really like the variety of styles you teach us. BTW do I see a pedal steel guitar in the background in your video? As a band director I can play most any band instrument plus guitar, bass, banjo etc. However, the coolest instrument in the world is a double neck pedal steel guitar. I just melt when I hear someone who can play one. Give us a little demo sometime if you are learning it. I have a lap steel I don’t know much about but it is so cool to fool around on. The tuning to the major 6th chord is music to my ears. Keep up the good work and enjoy the nice Tennessee weather before the hot summers arrives.
Just starting the lessons and so far are the best and trying to learn what you teach, so far so good ….thank you very much..
Brian,
Congratulations on your 300 milestone. As long as you are teaching and I’m living, you can count on my membership. I wish you and your family much success. You deserve it!
Corky
Congrats, glad you didn’t quit, your lessons are top drawer!
Brian, I have learned so much from your lessons . I enjoy the in-depth explanations and the why behind everything you teach! You are an exceptional instructor and your lessons are everything I had been looking for and although I am 54 years old I am having so much fun gaining knowledge of the guitar. Keep it up and congratulations! Here’s to another 300! Eric
Good on You Brian ,
Thank you for all the great lessons.
enjoy your week off , you have earnt in mate.
kind regards
john
Brian, congratulations on 300! Music is such a deep and profound part of our lives and you help all of us connect with it in a more fulfilling way; that’s why you see so much gratitude in all these comments. Thank you for what you do and for making me a much better guitarist. You are the best!
I couldn’t agree more !!!!
Am having a great time in the UK keep it up with the finger picking.Don
Congratulations on your 300! I have had a guitar for over forty years in my home, about 39 years of which it was in the closet as understanding how the guitar neck worked with bare chords notes etc. was so very frustrating. Some you tube videos helped a bit but so many video’s just show what a great guitarist they are but terrible teachers. In just about a year you have shown me what I was missing. Thankyou
{{{{{{{{Big Hugs}}}}}}}}}} coming your way, you know you are the best, easy to understand, sometimes I have to slow you down, or is it me…Keep up the good
lessons, I join in every day and come away with more courage and perhaps
someday perhaps I will be able to follow along easier with you.
Thank you Donna 🙂
Brian, those early lessons were NEVER bad or clumsy. You have always been the best, from the very beginning. I’ve been a member now for about 6 years and EVERY week I am blown away by what you create. You are absolutely #1.
Yea ! On the micro lessons.
Congratulations Brian on #300.
I have been a member since the beginning. I remember trying several different cites way back then. Could not find something that kept my interest. One day, I saw a YouTube
vid of yours that was perfect for what I was looking for.
All these years later, you are still the best guitar site.
Thanks,
Mark
Brian, I teach for a living (engineering, not guitar) so I feel pretty confident in saying, you’re a great teacher. In large part because you do open up and tell us where you yourself have struggled. I have thought for many years that the best teachers are the people who have had to work hard to get where they are – I definitely put myself in that group. I also appreciate that you understand the psychological aspects of what you do. Personally I’m pushing (rapidly) 70, and I picked up the guitar again two years ago to challenge myself. But the self-doubt and the “feeling silly” thing never completely goes away. So thanks for being an inspiration, and also for giving me another reason to look forward to Friday!
Brain: agree with Blain. I’m 72. Been trying to play since I was 11. But because of you, I’m really playing now. I bought a BnG Little Sister because of you. So don’t doubt you’re making a difference cause you are. You give old farts like me something to look forward to every Friday.
Thank YOU!
DocTim
Brian, this seems to be the old fogey thread. I’m 63 , retired engineer, and I’ve spent the last two years devoting myself to your lessons and trying to unlock the mystery of the fretboard. I’m pleased to say it’s working! A couple weeks ago I was playing with some friends and they wanted me to sing Roller Derby Queen, so I did. At the end of the song my fingers spontaneously went onto autopilot, and out came this wicked sounding turnaround that I learned over a year ago from you. It surprised me completely and was a very satisfying experience. A first time. Thank you. congratulations, and keep it coming!
Ray B
OK, I’ll be another in the retired for a living set. I enjoy the lessons and teaching style. Over 70, playing for over 40 years and still working at it almost every day. I learn something from every lesson even if it is going back to brush up on something encountered years earlier. I love how you stop to explain what is happening and how we can take the new concepts into other keys and places.

Retired from “real work” long ago and now on to a new career in music
Thank you. You’ve touched a lot of people’s lives!
Ron
THANK YOU!!!!!
Brian,
Your lessons are a huge influence on my musical journey. Your dedication to the music, teaching and the Active Melody family is greatly appreciated .
Congratulations on 300, Brian, it’s an amazing milestone. I enjoy those early videos. There was something so appealing in your teaching style that drew many of us in right from the beginning.
John
Hey Brian the reason you have succeeded this far is because you are doing something right and you are a likable person, I can’t even begin to tell you how far I’ve come along being a better player and more so really understanding why I am. I Thank You!
Brian, congrats on the big 3-0-0! I’ve been watching and learning from you pretty much since the beginning and a subscriber now for four years.
I love your teaching style and how you keep things simple but engaging and informative. Keep up the excellent work and I’ll be looking forward
to your weekly lessons. I just wish I had time to learn them all. Haha
Matthew
BRAVO, Brian pour cet anniversaire des 300.
Member since 094, I’ve learnt so much with you, it’s a long journey, it’s wonderfull journey !
Thank you et…
… rendez-vous à la 400 !
Congrats Brian, by far the most organized and most professional guitar lessons out there. Thank you and looking forward to 300 more.
Kind Regards,
Frank
Well said, Brian. A lot of us have been in the same boat, wondering if our business would ever get off the ground.
Your lessons are well thought out and explained, and I am finally starting to be a player, not a memorizer. Your CAGED lesson was one of the best I ever had (starting in 1969). And it carries into so many of the lessons.
As far as performing, I’m looking forward to the support discussions (I can play fine in the spare bedroom, but going out to play makes me crazy).
So congratulations, Brian, and keep up the good work. Your songs tell a story, the lessons are easy to grasp, and as for your playing, you set a high standard – you’re a true Nashville Cat.
Glad I found your site.
Bonus comment: My wife has heard me play the blues since we met way back when. Not to say she was sick of it, but she was SO HAPPY to hear your country tunes, so now I play two of them all the time – EP191, which I call ‘Nashville Steel’ and EP274, ‘Nashville Lullaby’. These two opened up a whole new world for me. I love those licks.
Brian,
Thanks for sharing your celebration of reaching 300 lessons. It has been such a pleasure learning from you. Your versatility is amazing. I’ve known people who were great guitar players but couldn’t teach. And others who could teach and explain things pretty well, but were not very accomplished players. Fortunately for us students, you can do both. Added to that you are very creative, good at composition and have the gift of “feel” for the music. Looking forward to your next 300 lessons.
Bill Cheek
Thank you Brian. 300 is a big achievement and you aren’t slowing down. Great that you are bringing back the micro-lessons and refreshing the courses as well. There is so much for us to learn here and I look forward to it every week.
Love ya Brian. Keep it going I’m with you.
keep truckin brian
CONGRATULATIONS on the 300 milestone, Brian – and thank YOU!
The reason you have come so far is that because you have been awesome from the beginning, even though you may cringe at the early lessons now (LOL) I think you presented (and you still do) something nobody else has: a perfect combination of clear presentation, high quality and simplicity of instructions, amazing music taste, even more amazing musical skills, and finally your sincere and unassuming personality, the passion and the generosity you show in each and every lesson – all that is a winning combination! Your lessons are loved also because they WORK, they get people to play and improvise and finally understand what they’re doing with the guitar.
I can’t even describe in words how much Active Melody means to me, I am just forever grateful for the moment you decided to teach guitar online and I am equally grateful for all the people that supported you from the beginning so we can all still enjoy this one of a kind community and the excitement of the new lesson every week!
Now I am excited to hear about the new courses you have in the making, I don’t know how you find time to do all that but I love the commitment and the ever improving quality of your instructions and the joy they bring 😀❤️You are simply the best, no doubt!
I totally agree with JoLa 🙂 the thing is that your instruction works! Thank you, Brian!
why not take a good holiday
even a month off
your stuff is so good
a week is not enough time
to really get what you teach in
a single lesson
Brian,
Congratulations!!! Most of all thanks. Think I’m in for near 5 years. It’s been great. Pound for pound I can’t think of a better investment financially and personally. A real gift!
Rock on!
Jim
There is no better investment
I really look forward to the weekly lessons and the in-depth background. Inspiring, I now take my hobby with me on business travel. Have a little electric traveling guitar that easily slides under the airline seats.
Thanks – your lessons are perfect
Congratulations Brian! So many great lessons, Thank you for all of them !
Congratulations on #300, Brian.
Every week I look forward to the next lesson and I am never disappointed. Your teaching method and style are unique and makes each lesson , be it old or new, EP or ML, Lead course or Hendrix, a pleasant and valuable experience. Thanks back to you!
Yeah awseome Brian. The great thing about that huge body of work is you can select what you want depending on your mood. I have enjoyed your lessons immensely and am extremely greatful. All the best for the next part.
Congratulations, Brian! 300 + lessons and still counting–Wow! A fantastic site not only for learning how to play, but also for getting encouragement from watching others learn and advance at the same time. Great fun!
Larry
Brian listening and posting same time,, Thank you friend! I know your talent as a player and instructor,, plenty good going forward I can tell enjoying each and learning to play much of the 300 lessons too!
LOVE THE LESSONS! So glad I found your site and became a member, have learned so much and improved. Look forward to Friday nights to see what you’ve released. Glad to hear more courses and micro lessons coming. Keep em coming cause your a great teacher and put out very interesting things to learn.
Brian,
When I hit 60, I bought a Tele. Had no idea what to do with it. Then I discovered you.
It’s years later, and the journey’s been fantastic. Thanks for all you do and congrats on 300.
Brian,
Congrats on reaching 300 lessons!
Just want to let you know that while caring for my wife who has advanced stage Parkinson’s your lessons and the AM forum have given me an outlet where I can escape and find a
happy place from the daily grind of this disease. I just grab my guitar and play one of your lessons and life becomes better.
Keep doing what your doing please. It has an impact that is more far reaching than you may think. I know it’s get me going all these years.
Thank you!
Tim
Brian, 300 wow! congrats.
In my house it’s called NLF (New Lesson Friday) and its been a pleasure to welcome you in each week.
Cheers.
Steve
Ha ha. We call if freak out Friday in our household.
HEY BRIAN! CONGRATS ON THE 300TH!! THANKS FOR ALL YOU’RE HARD WORK GETTING THESE LESSONS TOGETHER !! I’VE BEEN TAKING THESE LESSONS NOW ALMOST A YEAR AND THEY HAVE REALLY HELP ME!
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND WE CERTAINLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP!!
THANKS !!!
Brian:
I now enjoy playing the guitar. You’ve found your calling. What more is there to say?
(Other than) thank you!
Ian
Hey Brian
Part of my Saturday afternoon ritual is to go to my PC and see what delectable offering you have delivered. Never disappointed. 600 not far off!
Warm regards
Phil
Thanks! Keep em comin!
Really nice micro lesson Brian! Great way to use the A shape for the 4 and 5 chords. Arlo is looking good too. Congrats on EP 300. We all have another good reason to celebrate Fridays!
Brian , congrats on #300, I’ve been a member a relatively short time (little over 2 years) but am hoping you’ll never stop! Like others I look forward to tuning in on Fridays to see what you’ve come up with (not to put the pressure on lol!) .
YAY to the return of Micro Lessons! As a busy guy (self employed business owner) who has limited time for practice sometimes, Micro Lessons are great. They are instant gratification for me as I can grasp the concepts quickly. The longer lessons are great also, they are more long-term goals requiring more study, not dismissing them at all (currently working on your latest Fingerstyle Rag EP296, Tony Joe White EP212 & Slow Blues EP065)
Anyway – love your style, love your site and hope to be with you for the next 300!
I have been a member for 4 years this June, I have enjoyed every lesson and have learned tons. Thank you Brian for a great site……JOHN
Congrats on 300 Brian. It’s great to watch a talented hard worker successfully develop and execute his plan. Back in the day, the only way to learn a lick was to keep lifting the needle off a record while trying to figure out how to play it. Progress was so slow, it just discouraged me and I gave up. Finding Active Melody as a retirement hobby is just the ticket. Looking forward to tagging along. Be proud young man! Be proud!
Best to you and yours
wooohoooooooooo
March 15, 2019 at 11:29 pm
Congratulations Brian! Thanks for all the great lessons, keep up the good work. Thank you for every thing.
Brian, I’ve only been an Active Melody member for the last 18 months but in that time I feel that I have learned so much from you. There have been so many ‘light bulb’ moments that my electricity bill has gone through the roof! Keep up the good work and thank you.
Well, Brian, Thank you for everything you’ve done for all on your channel.
From London England – well done Brian. Fantastic content, and really well presented. Thank you.
congratulations Brian and thank you for being you every week with the blues for the past ten years
Brian,
congrats on your 300th . You’re a good teacher for sure, my friend. Thanks man!
Eric
Eric C… hmmm..?
I’ve often felt that Mr. C should be made aware of the respect for, and the great esteem that Brian holds for the creativity and style of such a tremendous artist and virtuoso… all the while doing absolute justice to that man’s technique innovative ability and style..! I am blessed to be able to appreciate the talent of them both..!
From Galicia (North Spain),
Thanks for all!
Maestro.
Congratulations to all of us, and thank you, Brian, for those terrific lessons. B.t.w, the early lessons made the most part of my playlist. Fantastic!
Lights.
Congratulations Brian! I can’t do any more than echo the sentiments and comments of the other members here. You are a great teacher and Activemelody is a great resource for all of us aspiring guitarists. Thank you!!
From Paris, France – Congrats Brian for the hard work! I enjoy every lesson that I pick in this huge catalog! And as a cherry on the cake, your accent is so clean that I can fully understand what you say! Thanks. Phil
Congratulations Brian on EP300.
Many thanks for Active Melody
..you are a beacon of light
Congratulations enjoy your week off youv’e earned it.
Congratulations Brian onEP300,
As I now go into my 2nd year as a premium member I remember my very first entry level lesson EP245 Jam Band Blues, every lesson onwards
has been first class. My goal for 2019 along with Active Melody is Visualization & Exploration of my strat’s fret board ( Meandering )
Good luck for the future Brian, I’m going no where.
Myra East Midlands UK.
Thank you Brian from Turkey, your lessons teach me a lot of blues technics
And Congratulations Brian EP300,
Congrets 300! Such a great job.
TY and compliments from Germany
Yep, As they say ” If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” just keep doing what you’re doing IT WORKS!!
Enjoy your week off & can’t wait for the next lesson!.
Way to go Brian, congratulations! helping so many of us with your amazing lessons, cheers Phil
Congrats, Brian, and thank you for creating such a rich catalog of the very best guitar instruction. I joined right around EP200 and struggled initially with keeping up with your weekly pace, but eventually I settled into a cadence and not only became a better (and smarter) player, but I discovered the style of music I really like to play. The depth of your catalog allows me to go back and focus on this style and really expand my skills. Even though you say the early lessons were awkward, they all have the consistent quality you continue to bring to every lesson. Thanks again.
Congrats on 300 Brian, please keep up your high standard of teaching for the next 300 !! 👌🙂
Congratulations and thank you Brian. I hugely admire what you have built here at Active Melody, you should be very proud of yourself it’s not easy to make a living out of doing something you love. 300 weekly lessons – frankly you deserve a week off, there is more than enough to keep us busy. I’m looking forward to the new content, especially the rhythm course.
HI Brian,
I love to be part of this . I’m 70 now…no ambition to be on stage ..(did it when i was young…) Just for pure joi ! …and ideal to keep dementia at a distance since i keep the brain in good shape….
thx
Willy (Antwerp, Belgium)
You deserve the week off, Brian. You’re more than a guitar teacher, you are a friendly voice every morning with my coffee and smidge of dark chocolate. And please, more Clapton for those of us who wore bell bottoms in the 60s and 70s and made it thru civil right and Vietnam era…….were still here in our 60s, getting free with Jesus and YOUR BLUES.
We dig your blues…… our guitars still give us a voice…….Rebecca
His wife agrees 😉
Very Many congratulations on your 300 th. Brian ! I Joined Active Melody when your lessons were just into double figures, and thanks to the many lessons that have followed, I am still learning, and hopefully still improving !
Many thanks for all your dedication and hard work
Countryman ( UK member )
Many thanks for everything you do for us Brian. You are The Man!
Well done sir! You got me back into guitar after a 20 year break. I’m relishing the prospect of the next 300. Respect to Marty and Justin and all, but you are my go to tutor.
Thank You Brian. I have learned a great deal over the years I’ve been a member.
Congratulations on the 300, that’s an amazing milestone. But above all, a big THANK YOU for everything you do for us, Brian. You are the only online guitar instructor whose lessons I ever found really helpful. I am in my 3rd year with AM, and I made progress beyond my own expectations. Keep up your exceptional standard, you are a great inspiration to us all!
Cheers, Andreas
Congratulations Brian, love your lessons!!! I look forward to all the new lessons!! Keep the blues and country going. I look forward to the new Rhythm course!!
Thank you for all your hard work!!
Congratulations on reaching your 300th,Brian. I have all of your lessons, including the microlessons, in two big binders which I delve into each night for an hour or two. I mark a happy face on my favorites and I have a lot of them. Your microlessons are a good idea and I would recommend you keep them simple and downloadable. I could spend the rest of my days playing your EP lessons and probably will (I am 78 yrs old). I always look forward each week for your new lesson.
Ciao Brian, I would say how important is what you are doing every week (300 lessons, whow!!), but evrerything has already been said before me and much better than I can do so I can only add my personal thanks and, in case you need it, my personal encouragement to continue on this beautiful way of spreading notes all over the world…. thank you, really, thank you …..
Brian
Thank you, my friend. I’m closing in on my 69th birthday. You give me the gift of music, and joy, and a goal to achieve each week.
Peter
Congratulations Brian, and thank you for the 300 excellent lessons you’ve produced each week over the years. Great news that you’re reviving the MicroLessons.
The pleasure is all mine. You’re the best. I wish I had time to keep up with the amount of lessons you provide. Can’t wait to see you new lessons both hands on and off. Good luck, keep it up, I appreciate all you do.
enjoy all your lessons brian learn a lot best regards john
Great job!!! Many thanks.
Congrats on 300!
Bravo, don’t think that I would have stuck it out for these fourteen months if you didn’t produce such a great lessons sight. Not the fastest learner at 68, but I have decided that I am all in.
Even went out last year and bought another guitar and amp. Keep up the good work
Nice video Brian — thank you from a continuous, long-time member who has really benefited from these lessons. Thank YOU very much!
Let me add my congratulations to the many others. You should feel so proud of the positive effect you are making in so many lives. Thanks, my friend.
Congratulations Brian!! Those early lessons were great enough to make me take the plunge I have never regretted and got me back not only where I was, but far beyond, I’ve never played better and enjoy it. You and the community have become friends and even helped me with my personal issues. So thank YOU!! Keep going we love it!!
best regards and hope some day we can share a meal!!
Roberto
thank you Brian ! you are by far the best teacher on the net !
Congratulations, Brian.
I and others may be participants and supporters but you are the impetus behind ActiveMelody.com – one of the best lesson series anywhere. Thank you for all that you do.
– Bill
Great lessons Brian. I have only been a member for less than a year but I have learnt so much. Thank you.
Brian, Relax and enjoy your time off. Thanks for all the great lessons.
Wow….check out this endorsement, Brian……Wherever you’re feeling “blue”…….just tune in to this thread…….
I’ll echo everyone’s sentiments. Your approach to teaching guitar has been invaluable to me. There would be a massive void without you.
MORE, please…..
Best regards,
Marty
Congratulations on your 300 totally agree with every comment posted . The clarity of your lessons your commitment and personality are A1 .
Look forward to every lesson although I struggle with most of them it’s such fun learning. Active Melody is just awesome
Regards Larry B in Scotland
You’re welcome. 🙂
My guitar used to be something that sat in a corner that I would pick up every once in long while, now it is my close friend. That’s thanks to you.
Thanks so much, Brian. I discovered AM two years ago and immediately joined. Learning to play your music is joyful, as is sharing the progress of your students on the
forum. Best of all is hearing – in several styles, your original compositions. Keep up the good work but don’t hesitate to take breaks, we all have plenty of catching up to
do.
Thank you Brian congratulation 300. you have become a friend and I truly look forward too are time together.
God bless you, Brian… and congratulations on this significant milestone..!
Initially, I was attracted to this site by its clarity, your musical influences (blues, country, jazz, Clapton and others, etc.) and the valuable snippets of relative theory explained and tied in over time within each lesson without overburdening the instructions in that regard either.
And Brian, I have to say that I have been equally impressed with your site’s generosity, both materially, which is characterized in the significant free stuff offered to those who are not yet Premium Members, but also that generosity of ‘spirit’ that you display to all wthin each valuable lesson.
Thank you, good man.
KM
Thank you Brian congratulation 300. you have become a friend and I truly look forward too are time together. Been playing for 2 years now. I started with your beginning course on up through you entire program . If I had talent Im sure i would be better but love to play. thanks again.
Four years ago, my wife gave me a gift card to Sam Ash and I bought a Telecaster. Then I found Active Melody and have found a new hobby and lots of new friends. Thank you Brian and to the members of Active Melody as well. Truly a great experience!!
Congratulations on your 300th!!
I discovered you on Youtube purely by Accident just before Christmas 2018.
Having owned a Guitar for many years and kept putting it down as I just couldn’t suss things out and a lot of ‘Online Lessons’ just overcomplicated things or where too fast to follow.
Now I have 2 guitars, a Blackstar Valve Amp and an empty wallet!!
In just the 3 Short Months since Christmas I play and sound better than ever before, my love for the Guitar has been rekindled and I have something to look forward to everynight after a long days work (Just don’t let my Wife read that bit!!)
I only get to manage 1 or 2 Hours in the evening due to my Working hours, but the excellent way you produce your Videos, the MP3 Jam tracks and that wonderful little playalong Tablature box at the bottom make it all the more interesting and accessible.
Thank you Brian for all your work thus far.
Carl.
Huge congratulations on your 300th lesson milestone Brian!
I have only been part of the Active Melody family for just under a year but your expert teaching has helped me play the guitar like I never thought I would. After losing a great guitar teacher to cancer many years ago I struggled to find my way and stay interested. I tried books, DVD’s and other YouTube videos but couldn’t find that spark that I once had in my playing. One day I came across one of your early lessons and felt an instant connection to both you and the music that you was teaching. My partner bought me an annual subscription for my birthday and the rest is history as they say. She has already said many times that I am now much more confident and playing proper music instead of sounding like I am just playing exercises.
I’m not sure you realise how good of a teacher you are but hopefully these comments will show you how much you are appreciated.
Keep up the great work!
Congrats and big hug from up North.
Love your lessons, style, choice of music, etc.
This place is a goldmine; hope I make it EP400!
Rock on Brian, and everyone in AM community
Here’s another Canadian fan, Brian! And I really dig your early lessons, too. Who couldn’t love LEG005 Delta Blues Solo, and EP013 Delta Blues Original, and EP066 Slow Acoustic Blues, and… well you get the idea, the list goes on and on! Active Melody is a treasure chest full of fabulous accessible blues that before discovering your site I only dreamed of playing. Thank you so much!
Congratulations on the 300 lesson-milestone, Brian. Your lessons are great and they also bring together people all over the world. Greetings from Wolfegg, Germany, Jürgen.
Thanks for all your work, Brian. You make Active Melody the best instructional guitar site out there. Not my saying , but an apt description of my guitar prowess is that I used to be a beginner with 30 years of experience. About three years ago I bought a good guitar to get back into learning in a serious way. I like to think that I’m now a fairly solid intermediate, and pretty much everything I’ve learned has been from you. I now have five guitars, two amps and a host of pedals, much to my wife’s chagrin. Someday I hope to actually be worthy of my gear, so I’ll continue to soak up everything you put out there. Thanks again.
Congratulations, Brian. 300 EP videos in and you are still creating interesting, challenging, and fun lessons. I’ve been here since EP035 when a lucky search for Eric Clapton lessons brought me to your site, and I still look forward to seeing what you have for us every Friday evening.
DUDE! We need more blues! Ha ha! Love it!! CONGRATS BRIAN!! I remember watching a how to video of yours long before Active Melody began. I still enjoy it and all the others. Thanks for a big help in making me a better guitar player Brian. I can’t tell you how important this is to me as I have very few other hobbies and this makes me feel great at times. You are a blessing to many! Also super happy to see a revival of the micro lessons! keep up the great work Brian!
Congratulations on 300 Brian! I’ve only been a premium member for about 7 Months and amazed at the
Great Take a Ways I’ve learned in that short time!
Keep up the Great Work and I will be here to absorb all that I can!
Sincerely,
Terry Harper
Rock On Brian, Thank you so much, what you do on-line is a gift. I hope you never stop and continued success. Heres to another 300.
Brian,
Without you I’m not sure I’d still be playing.
You taught me to really PLAY the guitar and not just attempt to memorize a series of notes.
Thank you thank you thank you.
Gampa Doug (Doug Clavell – Roseburg OR)

Congratulations Brian
Greetings from England, where would we be without the web? Don’t get your lessons till Saturday morning-too old to stay up late now – but boy do I love getting up early to see what we will be doing for the week following. Don’t always manage to gt through the whole lesson but ” every day is a school day” and something is always taken away.
Keep up the good work and look forward to another year
Cheers
Bob
Congratulations Brian
I’ve been a Premium Member since 2013 and the journey has made an enormous difference to my life. So a big thank you Brian. BAM (Before Active Melody) I could strum chords quite competently but little else. Now AAM (After Active Melody)I play melodies, have a much greater understanding of all things guitar and can even improvise!!
But that’s not all! What you’ve created here is not only the best learning site for guitar (in many peoples opinion, not just mine), but an amazing, supportive community that continues to give us all greater strength of purpose and incentive to improve our skills, whilst at the same time keeping things relaxed and always positive.
So thank you Brian, and thank you Joan, the two boys and Arnie for giving you the support you need to continue this great venture. Power to you all!
Martyn in France
Thank you Martyn!
Fantastic work Brian , off on a six month trip , travel guitar and active melody along for the trip ,
keep up the great work
Cheers Gaz (Aus)
Thank you Brian. I am learning so much from your teaching. I look forward each week to what you will show us.
I started back in 2014 . I watched a video you did on facebook with just guitar, and you may not have had the confidence back then but you had that special something that cant quite be defined. That got me back into playing again , and I just want to thank you because you never disappoint. Your playing and teaching is inspiring. I’ve learned a lot over those years and how important 1 note can be, when to play ,when not to play, strumming techniques, little suttle things that are important to the song. Playing is fun again and I am looking forward to 300 more.
Congrat’s. I enjoy all of your material and can’t wait for the lessons on fingerpicking.
Howard
I owe you a lot Brian. Thank you so much for all the hard work you put into the lessons and the site. I probably would not have kept playing guitar without you being here to keep me going. I have been a member for 5 years now and as long as I can pick up a guitar,I will be a member. I love the Micro lessons,so it will be good to see them again. Congrats on 300 lessons and a massive THANK YOU.
Thanks Brian. You’re a great teacher and you’ve made a big difference to my guitar playing!

Brian,
Can’t thank you enough for the lessons. I feel very grateful to have found Active Melody. My playing has greatly improved as has the joy that comes with it.
Hi Brian,
I’m Fabio from Italy, I follow you for years now and i wanted to thank you for all those wonderful lessons and moments thqt you are giving to us.
I was wondering if one day you’ll make an event or a little show in America or in Europe ?
Have a great day 🙂
Fabio. you’re biggest fan.
God bless America and god bless the Blues.
Hi Fabio. Once the kids get a little older I would like to do this. – Joan
Just needed to add my voice to the many members above. There are few things in life I would gladly pay more for and active melody is one of them . Every new lesson elevates my playing and more importantly , my understanding . Thanks Brian , you’ve been instrumental , pun intended,in unlocking the mystery behind the music I love. So much fun!
Thank you Brian,
I started to learn guitar with you october 2013. Now after six years, I have learned a lot from you and I have fun to play guitar. At the same time, you are my english teacher.
Merci beaucoup, Michel
Hi Brian,
I forgot to say in my last comment that you are a very good teacher . I have been teacher for 35 years. So I can say that you have good teaching skills and your teaching methods is perfect .
Michel
… Teacher for 42 years, really same advice yours, Michel, about Brian’s methods.
I think he’s so good because his guitar technic approach, of course…
… but, above all, because weekly lessons, compositions, surprises, create emotions and desire. Create learning desire, every week : the top !!!
From France !
Congrats Brian ! This is an memorable milestone by any measure. Thank you for your thoughtfulness in constructing these lessons ! There is always a moral to each of them.
-Rajiv
I have never enjoyed playing my guitar as much as I do now, and YOU are THE reason. Love your lessons and your gracious manner. Thanks, Brian!!!
Congratulations on 300! Brian.
I concur with the sentiments expressed above.
Thanks for giving me the tools and confidence to improvise. That was a goal of mine for years and it wasn’t until I found your ability to show how you connect the dots that I had the aha moment. The welcoming and encouraging community environment you have fostered has given me the confidence to play for and with others in jams. Lots of fun.
So a big thank you from west coast of Canada on a beautiful spring day.
Richard S
Congrats on reaching 300! I don’t think I’ve ever seen any web site with this many comments. It just shows what a huge and appreciative audience you have reached. I have practiced and learned over 250 of your lessons, and now forgotten most of them. But what has happened is that the techniques and licks have become imbedded in my brain, so that during the past year I have reached the point where I can now come up with original improv as I play. I can hear a tune in my head and play it as I’m hearing it. That’s something I thought I would never be able to accomplish, but thanks to your lessons, I have arrived. And I’m still learning from you every day.
Brian,
Your videos have transported my guitar playing into a new dimension over the last year. I am extremely proud of you for your accomplishment of 300 videos, and take special pride that you’re doing it right down there in Music City.
Love your passion and dedication to us!
Best,
Keith
Brian,
Congratulations on lesson 3-0-0!! I’ll bet it you don’t feel a lesson over 250! Brian, I’ve been with you for over two years, playing mostly acoustic. Last year I retired, so I got myself a Taylor T5z this month for my birthday and I hope to post my first electric monthly challenge this month. .
The stuff you teach us is so insightful. For instance in EP299 you said each new lick or box you learned you connected to the positions you already knew. Like connecting more dots and seeing more of the overall picture. That really helped me to extend the boxes and recognized connected licks.
You are so versatile that I don’t think we could ever get bored with your lesson material. Thank you for sharing your talents with us, and if we have helped you with our memberships then that is truly a wonderful thing!
Brian,
Thank you so much for all that you do with Active Melody! Congratulations on such a milestone accomplishment. Your passion for teaching is unparalleled by anything else on the internet and I’m confident that’s why it continues to be such a success!
Keep up the awesome work!!!
Bill B.
Fantastic Brian! I would like to see some more slide guitar music. Its difficult for me to master that.
Thanks again.
Joost
Congratulations on 300. I have enjoyed everything that you have done for me and the rest of the community. I missed the Micro Lessons.
Thanks for everything.
Brian,
Congratulations on the 300th EP!
And thank you for delivering week after week a lesson which is fun to learn and to play and improves the way I play guitar.
Olivier
Congrats, Brian. You do a great job. I just re-signed for a second month minutes ago because Really liked the micro lessons. I didn’t know that they had been discontinued. I guess one is better than none. I agree with you on the face lift on the early lessons. I find the looping tab with speed control vital to the learning process. I really missing it on the Eric Clapton part One and Two and Jimmy Hendrix. Thanks for all you do.
Congratulations!! Thank you so much for your videos. You motivate me to learn more and more!
Congrats!! and great work; enjoying the mini lesson this week
Congratulations Brian! I have personally grown so much as a guitar player thanks to your creative lessons.
I deeply appreciate the effort you put this into your lessons and the Active Melody communicated.
Thank you, John
Nicely done Brian. Congrats!
Thank you so much for you great content! Love you approach to learning music. I really appreciate knowing why something works and how to maybe use it in my creative sessions.
Keep up the great work!!
Congrats Brian ! Quite a milestone. You are the best ! Just a thought. Please don’t forget to throw in every so often a Chet Atkins fingerstyle play. I know you have been doing just that and I love those. Just want to make sure those style of lessons don’t get forgotten. They are Alway challenging, but Always rewarding ! (And good for arthritis overtime, am sure). Cheers from Blackhead, Australia.
Well I haven’t beenwating ya for 10 yrs but I remember your earlier vids and I still got a lot out of em coz it was what I liked and your teaching style was what I needed. I never picked up a guitar until I was 51 and I’ll be 56 in June. I always loved guitar and wanted to play but never had the opportunity when I was younger. I now have a collection of both acoustic and electric and see no waste in time and money spent! Your lessons played a major part in this and I thank you Brian!
Congratulations Brian you deserve the devoted fan base you have. I never learnt so much about playing the guitar from anywhere else, you are the Champ!
Cheers
Mike from UK!
Well done Brian on reaching 300 lessons, you’re the only internet guitar teacher who can get me where I want to be on guitar, I have learnt and improved so much since becoming a premium member. Your lessons are ideal for someone like me who can’t sing and just wants to play by himself. Most online lessons just teach strumming chords to well know songs, you are obviously a very talented musician. Thanks for giving me a fantastic and enjoyable hobby, Keep up the great work, and I hope we can celebrate 600 lessons some day.
Many thanks and big congrats, Brian. You rock!
Congratulations! Keep up the great work Brian!!
You’re a class act for sure!
Brian you are extremely talented. Not only your guitar playing but your teaching style is the best I have ever had the good fortune to have discovered a few years ago. I’m not a great player, however, under your instruction My playing and knowledge of music has improved immensely.
I think I can safely speak for others when I say that I am grateful I think I can safely speak for others when I say that I am grateful to you for all the guidance.
Sincerely,
Kevin
Many congratulations. Your lessons are fantastic and thanks for them all. David
Awesome Brian and congrats on your success! Love your teaching style and how easy it is to use! Micro lessons again, awesome! I love your lessons and how complete they are, but most of all you are a gentleman who really conveys you care about your students! Your refreshing kind personality and love of your family including Arlo makes me happy and feel good that I found your site and even though I have never met you in person I consider you a good friend! Peace and harmony to you and your family!!

Congrats on reaching such a milestone. I have only been here a few months and your teaching style has made a difference in my playing. Thanks so much for what you do.
I just joined this year, but have loved your lessons. So much so, that I went all the way back to your first lesson and am listening to all of them in sequence, even when I don’t have time to necessarily learn each piece. I find your logical approach to explaining things mind expanding and thru osmosis, it’s having a good effect on my overall understanding. Keep up the good work!
Congratulations Brian that’s a remarkable achievement.Always throughly enjoy your .Finger style lessons that’s great love those
Looks like it has all been said but I’ll add my 2 cents . You ARE THE BEST instructor. I’m still in the beginner section and you’ve convinced me that I can reach EP300! That is the highest praise that I can imagine. Thanks – Ray
Thank you . I love your videos and your relaxed naature makes me feel like I can do them all.
Thank you, Brian, for ALL you do, are doing, and will do!! I think I covered all the bases!! LOL 🙂 You more than deserve a week off!! Enjoy!! “See” you when you get back on here!! 🙂
300 and hopefully many, many more! In just 3 months as a member, I’ve completely transformed my playing, both technically and music theory-wise. I recommend Active Melody to anyone I know who plays guitar. Keep up the excellent work!
Brian, to say your lessons have inspired me to get better would be an understatement. You have a way of making really cool and impressive arrangements and concepts easier to learn and understand, even for me. You were born to teach wannabes like me and make us sound like we know what we’re doing. Never stop. If you don’t stop I won’t. If I unsubscribe it’s because I’m dead so I want you to at least send my poor wife a note. She has heard EP 213 and 214 a million times. 😂
10 years and over 300 lessons! Wow! Congratulations…I wish I would have found this all those years ago! Love what you’re doing!
Congratulations on 300, Brian. You are one of the best on-line instructors out there … and an excellent and creative player as well. Keep up the good work!
Congrats brian…
Congrats Brian. I’m a new member, 300 lessons is one heck of a milestone. So glad you got over being insecure and awkward.
Thanks, Robert Q( grumpy gringo)
I recently signed up and have enjoyed every weekly lesson. I started learning guitar 6 years ago at the ripe young age of 65. Your teaching techniques definitely prove you can “teach an old dog new tricks”. Thank you and congratulations on number 300!
Brian, I have everyone of your lessons saved, so much excellent info and so diverse, I have learned so many of these lessons verbatim, but so many more that I wish I had enough time to play all of them. Keep them coming our way. Bob of Guitstrapped.com
Hey Brian, I don’t usually make comments. In fact, I don’t think I ever have. I am a 74 year old guy, and I’ve been playing most of my life. I’ve played in a few bands over the years – always rhythm guitar and singing. I was/am a decent rhythm player and a good singer, which always carried me. so the guitar was always to accompany my singing. I never considered myself a “musician”, as I equated that term to instruments, rather than vocals (not that that’s in fact true). Anyway, I am a “learn by doing” person, and most on-line lessons kind of want one to learn first and then do. Then I discovered you several years ago. Your approach to tie together learning a piece and learning theory, scales, licks, etc. in the context of playable music has changed everything for me. I now can develop my own compositions as extensions of the “starter” pieces you teach, because you have taught me the “whys” of how tunes and music are made. I can do things musically now that I never dreamed I could ever do. It may sound corny or overstated, but this has been one of the most gratifying things ever in my life and something that I am so grateful for experiencing. I watch every one of your weekly lessons, pick ones that resonate with me (mostly blues and country stuff, but not exclusively), and then I work hard to learn nearly every one I set out to learn. I play 1-2 hours a day, and it has become one of the most important parts of my life. THANK YOU BRIAN and happy 300th.
Thank you Brian. I have learnt so much from you. You are a great teacher! Another 300 and more coming up I am sure.
Peter
Brian,
I’ve been playing since I was 13 years old. And that was over 53 years ago. I’ve had numerous guitar teachers and automated courses over the years. Picked up licks from other guitar players. But of all the instructors, you’ve had the biggest impact of my repertoire and rekindled my desire to want to play again. Until I signed up for your course some 3-4 years ago basically out of desperation. I was actually considering giving it up . However I look forward to seeing each new weekly lesson. I chose and pick what songs I want to learn. And for that I thank you! And CONGRATS ON REACHING THE 300 LESSON, quite a milestone. Look forward to another 300👍
Brian, thanks for what you do and how you do it. I have played guitar since my teenage years, but never professionally. I consider most of what I know self taught, and I love music. I also get out to see a lot of live music, especially guitar and string players/bands.
As I am part of the Medicare youth movement, and still working, I find your teaching and lessons to be a tremendous value. Not just the cost value, but your lesson structure allows me to work at my pace, and pick and choose which lesson when. I have learned new ways to move my chords and picking up and down the neck, and I adapt them to what I thought I knew.
Listening to your tone, has made my approach to lead guitar more of a rhythm approach. So I am sounding better. Sadly, I don’t practice a lot of songs, as I don’t really sing, but I can play along with most of the songs I hear and I am able to apply some of tricks and short cuts that you teach. I recommend you to my friends, no matter what level of player.
I would like to see a few lessons of strumming methods for chords, and how to develop better rhythm and sounds. I know practice is a good answer, but rhythm playing is key. For my final comment, I must tell you I am in awe of your instrument collection…really like the B & G. Keep up the good work.
Brian,
Thanks for the great lessons, I am relatively new here, and just have to say that there are challenges for me, especially finger picking, but I am making progress.
Thanks for the encouragement too! You definately get it!
Cheers,
john K.
Thank you for sharing your talent. Your teaching makes my job as a student much easier.
Kind regards,
Larry Herrera
Hi Brian.. you deserve a break after 300 lessons!
It’s hard to keep up ! Really enjoy your variety of novel and creative melodies.
Keep up the good work.!
Brian, thank you so much for devoting your time and talent into teaching these lessons. I appreciate it more than I can say. I have been a member for a while now and feel I have learned more in this time I have been a member than any other time in my life and I am 70.
Allen
I , better we all have to say thank you Brain,
I had always loved guitars, and i was never able to learn some great stuff by my own from notes or Tabs. But at least i never liked to give up..
Lately i searched for a long time the new medium internet and at least i found some of your lessons in YouTube. Only than i found out quickly that it was great lessons. For the first time i start to understand things very quickly and most important was that it start inspiring me a lot and i picked up my guitar start learning and playing more and more. ..
Thanks you for inspiring me Brain..
Thanks for sharing your gift with us. You taught me how to be a more complete guitarist.
Thank you. I love these lessons. They go beyond blues and are very logically rendered. Good how you do different keys too.
Thank you Brian, always learning!
Brian, congrats and thank you. You have helped me tremendously. I can’t believe how faithfully you come up with new and great lessons weekly. Don’t ever go away.
REQUEST: could you whip up a lesson on “ jump blues “ chord progressions?? Your the best. Thanks, again.
No. Thank You!! My wife reckons my guitar playing has improved heaps since I’ve been doing your lessons. I’m actually discovering some rhythm which is a surprise to everyone!
Active Melody is the only on-line guitar instruction I am an active member of. Not only do I like the type of lessons you provide, I also really enjoy the way you teach. Although I’m still a long way for being an accomplished player, you have helped make the journey easier and loads of fun. Thank you for all that you’ve taught me. I am looking forward to watching and learning from the next 300 lessons.
Thank you so much, Brian. Your lessons are fantastic – so musical, so inspiring and so useful. You make it interesting. You cover just the range of American music that I’m interested in playing – the stuff that has inspired and informed all my favourite music. You give us just enough theory to make it applicable to other things, but not too dry so that it gets boring. Almost every week, I want to get down and play what you teach.
So once again, thank you so much.
Thank you Brian and congratulations on your 300th lesson I love your lessons and you are a fantastic teacher you don’t leave anything out these lessons mean a lot to me they’ve given something to look forward every day , thank you mate😊
Hello, Brian,
congratulate you on your great work. In each of your lessons you can feel how much fun you have at work.
Before I joined Active Melody, I hardly made any progress on the guitar.
Now I’ve been around for a little over a year and learned a lot. That’s exactly the music I like. With your help and explanations in every episode, I can fulfill a childhood dream and play the music I heard on record as a teenager. I’m really looking forward to the next episodes.
Keep it up,
greetings from southern Germany from Lake Constance,
Achim
Congratulations on reaching 300 lessons Brian. That’s an amazing achievement. How you keep coming up with new material every week is beyond me….
I was going to say you should take more holiday time but when your job is your hobby, why would you?
All the best to you and the family and let’s have a cameo from Arlo soon!
Cheers
Danny
Thanks, Brian. 300 lessons -all good and some real gems in there, which have opened up doors in my playing. For example the chord patterns in EP289, (I – I7 – IV -IVm and I – VI – II – V) really got me thinking about how to play these sequences in any key by using root notes from the E and A strings, which then took me to songs like Sporting Life, Ain’t Misbehaving and What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve. This in turn led to me thinking about how to go beyond usual pentatonic solo ideas for songs like this …… and all inspired by this one lesson.
You’ve heard it all by now, Brian, but I think your lessons are the best….and I’ve tried more than a few. My favorite for the moment is the Tony Joe White lesson. I’ve not previously seen anyone tackle this very unique style.
Hi Brian,
A big congratulations and thank you from Ontario Canada! Like many others I have signed on to a lot of different guitar lesson sites over the years. Far and away you are the best, you not only know your craft but have a real gift for teaching it, and seem like a genuinely nice person as well. Since it seems to take me at least a month to learn a lesson, I will never be caught up, and will likely be a member for a long time!
Thank you again.
Congratulations Brian on reaching your milestone 300th lesson. Great to hear your honest feedback about that too and how you’ve also feel you’ve progressed with them. For me, the lessons I’d tried have definitely broadened my own playing, pushing me to branch out into a few more styles than I would have probably tried otherwise. It’s made me a much better player, but there is always so much to keep learning! Keep up the great work—in my view, the best guitar online teacher with such diverse styles and lessons. 😀👍🎸
CONGRATULATIONS!!
what a fantastic achievement. 52 times per year , you send wonderful surprises!
thanks a lot Brian
kind regards from Martin, The Netherlands/Naarden
Thanks and congratulations from Le Puy en Velay, France. You are a good person, good professor and a big guitarist.
THANK YOU from Edmonton, Alberta!
300 lessons, and I think I’ve mastered 1.5 of them – lol. But that’s ok, I’ve gotten dozens of nuggets from many of them, and plan to get more. The way you teach makes the individual components very transferable to many of the jams we do. Someone said to me last week that they enjoyed it when I paly lead (and I’m the bass player!).
Congratulations Brian!! Keep up the good work, and thank you so much for the inspiration to play guitar.
Love and Gratitude Sir Brian! Thanx for being YOU!
Brian,
Congratulations on reaching EP300 milestone. I enjoy your lessons and the fact that you teach different aspects of playing as well as different genres. Really glad to hear you’re bringing back the micro lessons too. Enjoy your week OFF…LOL
Hi Brian, Congratulations on reaching your 300th; your teaching skills are very good. I used to listen to your lessons on my works computor during my lunch to which I found very easy to follow, I went past the retirement age by three years now (68) and now officially retired, my wife says you have a lot to answer for as you have made me get my very first guitar out of retirement which was bought for on my 16 birthday, this is a; Vintage Futurama Coronado Automatic there were only 100 of these made. Has I have not played for forty years it is nice to follow you and your technique. Keep up the good work.
Regards
Tony
Congratulations Brian. Until I found this site, I noodled on the guitar. Your instruction gave me hope that I could actually learn how to play. I’ll be here until I’m better than you and that’s probably going to be a while.
Darryl
like my golf game – every once and a while – I’ll hit upon a moment of bliss. I like that feeling. Thanks for supporting the bluesy musical chase.
Love you Brian!!!
can’t wait till lesson EP1,000 !
Congrats Brian.
I am relatively new to this site but I love it already. As I said in a previous post you have a unique genius for coming up with very good tunes combined with an excellent teaching approach.
Whenever I pick up a guitar I find I am always playing one of your lesson tunes. I have never been very good at “exercises”. I find I get bored quickly and now I’m too old to spend time with an instrument if it’s not enjoyable. Your lessons are fun to play and I have learned more from you than all other sources combined.
If you want to enjoy learning to play guitar this site is the place to be. Keep up the excellent work.
Rob
Congratulations Brian and most importantly thank you,so much material with everything explained in great detail you make it possible to progress and really advance on guitar 🎸
Thanks Brian!
I love that your lessons are always no BS or lengthy introduction, just fun, fast and full of great songs and ideas.
Here’s to 300 more!
Thank you so much for all the great lessons you put out for us.
Learned a lot from you over the years and look forward for more lessons!
I will be a member till I die. this is the best, love your teaching. thank you so much, I have and will learn so much, and turn friends on to become members as well.
MDB
Brian , I like the idea referring back to the micro lessons and this one particularly is a great warm-up exercise in the morning.. also think blending or relating these micros with the old previous lessons..especially those you done prior to the soundslice feature introduced few years ago.. ty again enjoying this now!
Hi Brian, I think you got this one a bit wrong. It is ALL of us who should be thanking you for the fabulous lessons you have provided over the years & your incredible dedication and enthusiasm to each & every lesson. I know it has changed my life, & although I’m far from an expert guitarist, I just love your in depth explanations & your creative abilities.
So I hope I can say, on behalf of all your members, “A MASSIVE BIG THANK YOU FORM ALL OF US!” Keep up the great work.
Cheers Eric.
Brian – congrats on reaching this major milestone! It’s to all of our benefits that you hit 300! Thank you for sticking with it! I signed on as a member around lesson 225 and have learning so much in the last year and a half. Here’s to another 300!
Thanks –
Greg
Hi Brian,
Well done on reaching the 300th lesson milestone. You are a good guitarist and a great teacher. I did the ml056 micro-lesson which was easy and a lot of fun. I looked at some other micro-lessons and I am going to go through them also. They are reasonably easy and they are fun to do. They also improve my playing technique. I have been doing your weekly lessons for about 1 1/2 years and have finally looked at the my courses section of my account. I have been playing the guitar for 60 years, so I don’t think I need to do the beginners course, but what about the blues lead and the Jimmy Hendrix course? You cover a lot in your weekly lessons – is it worth doing these additional lessons? I still play at a few gigs per month for which I also have to learn new songs in addition to your lessons. I love doing it all, but I am running out of time.
I have to thank YOU!…you make me want to pick up my guitar again, when for many years in the past I had no direction, no guidance after learning basic chords over the years. Normally it was a pick up the guitar for a week, then get bored of hearing myself play the same basic chords….then the guitar collected dust again type of routine. Your compositions and breakdowns of theory with each lesson has kept the guitar playing exciting again and constant since joining almost 2 years now….THANK YOU for reviving one of my favorite relaxing past times again.
300, way to go. stay with what got you here. don’t change it. IWOULD NOT HAVE JOINED IF YOU DIDNT HAVE ALL THE BLUES LESSONS. Maybe try some more FUNK/BLUES.hahaha
NO don’t change its great, just keep adding brother, keep adding. When I was going through my divorce I found Active Melody and was a great outlet for me. thank you, you got me through tough time with your lessons and you didn’t even know it, lol
Hello Brian!
Grüße aus Wien. Du hast mir schon viele schöne Stunden ermöglicht. Hast mir gezeigt, dass Üben Sinn macht und dafür möchte ich Dir heute danken.
Hannes
Brian,
Congrats on the 300th lesson, and hoping we see many more!!
Also, glad to see the Micro lessons returning on a limited basis!
Take care and stay cool!……….Sal
Brian,
Congratulations on reaching 300 lessons! And it was nice of you to share the personal side of that accomplishment. It really says a lot about who you are as a person and a musician. What we see each week on camera is you. No ego, no BS, just you and you are a genuine and caring person and that comes through in your videos. As you know there are an endless number of instructors and lessons on the Internet but I am so glad I found you. You are at the top of my list and a lot of it is because of your personality. I DO love your content and the way you teach. Like a couple of weeks ago, EP299, there was a lick at the beginning of the song and you stopped and told us to think about what was just played and how it can be used easily in other keys and you showed us how as an aside. As it says on you opening web page Learn to Play, Not Memorize. You do a fantastic job of accomplishing that sir.

Hey Brian, 300 is already a big number. The special thing is that all your lessons are of high quality. You speak to a wide number of students and cover their needs very well. Everyone can, tailored to their personal part, take what they need for their own development.
Best regards Wilfried
Hey Brian. I’m late commenting on your big 300, but wanted to thank you for the hard work you do for us. I really like your format including your micro lessons. It seems I learn something from every lesson, whether it is my favorite type or not. Hope you had a great week off, something you should do more often. Keep up the great work and God bless you and your family.
I’m pretty new as a premium, but a long-time fan of your work. You’re the best guitar teacher on the web–this is due to the clarity of your explanations, the tabs that you include (I couldn’t remember the leads w/o the tabs to remind me), and the micro lessons for when I don’t have that much time. I will be a premium member until I get good (50 years from now). Thanks so much for helping me love the guitar even more.
BTW, you have a couple of mandos on the wall. Any chance of you doing a mandolin bluegrass series?
Hi Brian, I just signed in your premium yesterday. to me this is excellent stuff, even for a French man! I found much more inspiration at Active Melody compare to other websites.
Keep leading us Brian!
Hi Brian, I like the way you are, even the insecure part 🙂 I found it rather relatable. I started to go backwards from the current lesson down to this one, already ocean of good lesson, thanks, and keep it up!
