Description
This week’s guitar lesson is a country blues style rhythm with fill licks. I’ll break everything down note for note and show you how to play this rhythm (explaining the strum pattern in detail). I’ll explain where all of the fill licks come from so that you can start to improvise in this style.

This is a style I probably never would have sought out on my own but you have got me wanting to learn this. It’s a catchy and well played composition and will expand my musical hoizons. Thanks for putting in the sweat with these weekly. Can’t wait to get my foot stompin and my fingers playing with this one!

Brian, any technique tips muted up strokes? I’m currently finding them significantly more awkward than muted down strokes.

Brian love this, what about a part 2? Like you did recently with muddy waters? That would be sweet!!!!!!!

Nice. I was working on an improv using the same chord progression., then this came out. I really like this and it was like a light going off, seeing different triads using these techniques all across the

Oops, didn’t finish and accidentally hit the post.
This lesson, while working on it, I started seeing how I can use the same patterns across the fretboard.
Really sweet lesson.
Thanks. 😎🎶

I was having trouble finding the groove when I concentrated on what beat the non-muted strokes came, but as soon as I started paying attention to which beat the muted strokes fell it started to work. Maybe because fretting the chord is more natural than muting?
Gerald Pfeiffer says
Brian: Along with many guitars, I also play the steel. I have also heard you say that you were playing the steel at different times, If so could you put together a lesson on steel guitar E9th tuning back ground music country style. Thanks Gerald Pfeiffer

If I did, I would alienate 99.9% of the audience 😉

Enjoyed this one Brian! This is really helping me with my strum mute technique!
StreakyPete says
Yeah, I really liked this lesson Brian. I can use some of those licks in different songs.
I’m not all that fast as a player, and although I can play this at a reasonable speed using my looper,
I’m not quite up to the pace with the jam track. It would be handy to have a ‘slightly’ slower
version of this track. Other than that, Loved the lesson, and I’ve gained from it.
Douglas B says
I would to know why there is a difference between the way you teach this song and the charts. The charts show all down strokes on the rhythm chart but you teach it with both upstrokes and downstrokes. When I watch you play I don’t see you muting the E chord shape like you do in the instructions. Are you palm muting or are you using only downstrokes like it shows in the TAB?
sunburst says
This is a fav I saved, second time throwback here this morning,, really is fun and learning a bit more about slide time..I noticed varying speed time for note/notes slides are critical for this country feel tempo. Enjoying this much more second time around!
Joe H says
Mostly have it down but would like to be able to download the slower version..like some other lessons…thanks
