Reminds me of Clapton Unplugged.

I was thinking the same thing!

Like…Change The World…
Darryl B says
Yup!! Change the world Brian!! Great job with the A6 – A9 chords
Thx for the great lesson…………..
Karina B says
Yes!
Dan Z says
Came here to say this. Leaving satisfied.
Tom M says
Agree!
Karina B says
Absolutely! Eric Clapton was the first thing I thought too.
Nick L says
Another great composition Brian, yes very Eric…..but first class.👍🎼🐯
Bob A says
Yep – spot on
Robert G says
Reminds me of Clapton, Period

Brian, Hey Thanks for explaining the harmonized 3rds, etc. It all makes sense, Thanks again for the explantation you’re the best teacher on the internet I have found. Ron T
San Luis Rey says
This sounds so good I can’t wait to get started with this lesson Brian! This is a great stand alone blues that will hopefully be in my bag of tricks soon. BTW the Martin sounds wonderful!
terry o says
Brian’s Martin inspired me to get my own. Bought a 1971 D-41 with all the abalone bling. Love it.
Kevin S says
I love these Brian! Thank you! Be Well.
brian-belsey says
This is really nice, and sounds very original to me!
Jim M says
I’m hooked !! Got the first open chord riff down and love it.
Ian M says
This is the kind of thing you walk into a guitar store and play if you wish to impress. 🙂 Nice one Brian. I’m going to have to learn it before the store reopens.;)
Sharon C says
Ah-ha… I made lots of connections with these licks/(3rds) with their pentatonic shapes. Baby steps and love when it comes together. If I only had these lessons 30 yrs ago!!! Thank you Brian for being so thorough and patient with us slow learners. Lol
I really enjoy playing because I understand what I am doing now instead of just fooling around.
Dirk L says
Same here! Absolute basic blues to begin with on guitar. After this you can start to explore those great blues legends…..Thank you so much Brian for being such a great guide into the guitarworld! Take care&stay safe!
Robert M says
I don’t go into guitar stores anymore. I buy my guitars on eBay and Reverb but that’s another point. I shun guitar stores because there’s always some kid there playing “smoke on the water” then looking around to see who’s looking.
Dan Z says
That’s not a bad thing; that’s a rite of passage to being a guitar player.
Mr.Charlie says
lol about smoke on the water. personally id never buy a guitar without playing it first. gotta make sure its good for you personally. you can find cheaper end guitars were that particular one was made extremely well and sounds better then even a higher end guitar.
kurt neumann says
Sounds very Gabor Szabo-ish!
Glenn says
I love this Brian. Such great feeling. Can’t wait to learn it. My girlfriend thinks I will be painting furniture this weekend!
Two Below says
It took me a bit to warm to this lesson, but it’s one of my favorites. It brought a lot together for me with licks I’ve known a long time. Now I know why they work. Outstanding! A request for Brian: How about celebrating your next milestone, or just giving us a treat with a 10-minute improv? No lesson, just watching what you do. Everyone would love it.
Tim Lee says
I hear some Clapton ideas in there. A little bit of ” Change the World “. Sounds great.
Brent C says
Another home-run Brian!!! Thanks so much for sharing your creativity. I can’t wait to get this one down. Sooo cool !!!
ron D says
That is playing MUSIC , Thanks Brian
parsonblue says
You compose some great melodies from strum chords and single note runs. I’m a flat picker at heart so it’s right up my alley. Many thanks.
Also wanted to say that the semi-classical (New Age?) compositions of EP 039 and EP 314 are a heck of a lot of fun too. Very creative.
charjo says
Four plus years in and you are still making light bulbs go on for me. Thanks for the tremendous variety of lessons you create week after week.
John
Phil G says
One of the things I like most about your lessons is all the new chord voicing’s. Voicing’s I would have never looked for let alone found. That first B9 did throw me. But I finally saw it! I don’t know how you found it? But it is a coo sounding chord. I need to get started on this one right away. I also echo others in thanking you for the way you explain everything. And the way you relate everything back to a CAGED chord shape.
Thanks for all the time you put in to help us all!
Phil G says
Actually, it was that first “A” 9 that threw me at first.
Alan D says
Nothing better than a cup of coffee and a Saturday morning lesson from Brian! Wish I had them 30 years ago. Don’t change a thing! Thx

kevin m says
Thanks again Brian,
a cup of coffee and one of you’re great lessons is a treat, especially in this time of craziness and confusion..
I can tell, reading the comments, that the effort you put in is so appreciated.
Ricky M says
Another great one thanks Brian. I like these stand alone pieces .
Les Brown says
WOW.
Two Below says
Oh yeah, and Tony Joe White in there, too.
Theodore J says
Thank you Brian, good takeaways on this one…..hopefully they will come back somewhere down the line…
Raymond P says
Wow, one word describes this Blues melody “Beautiful”. The lesson is wonderful too but the sound of this one is so relaxing and pleasant to listen to.
Thanks Brian,

TOP DRAWER PERFORMANCE BRIAN AGAIN
Keith B says
Going to the B7 in measure 17 is that great “Yer Blues” lick. Thanks, Brian.
Pat P says
You definitely don’t disappoint Brian. Thank you.
Some very nicet little take-aways in this lesson
One very cool tidbit, that I never knew, despite my years of playing – was the ringing A and B sound from the open string E shape on the 7th and 9th frets. Very neat!
Mark N says
Yet again a great video and teaching for me Brian with where I’m at. I’m pretty competent like many I suspect at soloing blues but the rythme side is still an area I need to develop far more. I’m far too guilty of using ‘full’ chords to often and your lesson has taught me just how much easier and quicker and better it is to only pick a few strings, making the transitions miles easier too. I’ve yet to perfect this, I need slow practice yet but already I can really see what’s happening. It’s actually a pretty easy lesson but so beneficial.
dave t says
Another great lesson. Really like the intro section with pdf. Thx again Brian. Stay well.

Joined today, 67yrs learner and have been looking for something online since November last which was when i purchesd guitar 1 , Taylor 114 CE. Also Have a Epiphone Les Paul std. When I saw the google vid on todays lesson I was hooked and joined straight away. Easy watching and great explanations on the lesson. Looking forward to some more lessons and to looking back on the previous content. Still smiling after cracking the intro with not much difficulty, due to the great way this is put out.

Sound like someone put new strings on, nice and chimey. Haha
Brian says

I’ve been playing off and on for 50 years but that last chord is something else. I couldn’t play it if my life depended on it . Lol
But I really like the composition.
stratatatcat says
I really enjoyed this one as well. I picked it up rather quickly. This is another example of one of your comps that I would love to see a part 2 on 😎👍
Jack G says
A particularly nice effort, brother … this one sound quintessentially American to me, I think for the same reason “Melissa” does.
Best from Jack on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
David L says
I love the compostions and the explanations. As I’m interested in creating, when you explain how the 6th goes to the 9th, it’s just what I’m looking for. Also loved the slight node to Mixolydian mode and would love more compositions that move beyond the major and minor pentatonic/caged system.
Keep up the great work, Brian!!
Carl Z says
Really enjoy this lesson. Both as a composition to keep playing. And to further my understanding of the fretboard. Thank you Brian.
james s says
Ah what ,, cheers for that brian im all way through ( perfection as well) first for me mate ,, hope misses aint to peed of .. 😉
Laura M says
Alot to learn, I’m a little lost but at least it sounds decent when I play around… thanks again.
Scott C says
Awesome feel to this one!
John K says
Yeah,
I love this one, but it took me almost a month to get through it all. Now that I can get through it, it will take time to be proficient. Then when I can play it through without any mistakes and in time, it will sound like I know what I am doing! (lol) Does anyone else go through stages like these, basically memorization, practice proficiency to final product? Just wondering?
Thanks,
John K.
Scott M says
Such a challenge for my skill level…but making progress with it. Learning new licks, techniques and a little theory in a 90 second song. So glad that I joined. Thanks.
Conroy G says
Brian, any chance you can break down that introduction. I’m a slow learner and can’t quite get the ending of the intro. Loved the lesson. There’s hope for me yet.

Always come back to this lesson, this is one of my favorites. Just one question: These A6 and A9 chords do have a minor7. So they’re an A6/7 and A7/9 to be precisely, right?
Peter B says
I’ve seen all the great comments on this lesson and can but agree. This is a really intriguing take on the blues and is helping expand my knowledge. Brian’s lessons are so innovative and interesting and I’m progressing enormously from them.
The only problem with your lessons is there are too many of them and as a relative newcomer I am having difficulty in choosing which ones to take next! I need a plan!
Don’t ever give up Brian (well at least for the next few years!).
Drew D says
How does he do it? One great lesson after another, now if I can learn these no-nonsense tutorials, I’d be a happier man. thanks sir Brian.
Sandra C says
You should absolutely give youeself a pat on the back Brian!!!You are amazing!!! I cannot believe how much content you share with us! Every beginner should learn from you! I’ve been a premium member for at least 6 years…Now i will take a pause to focus on learning new songs ,new style…and hopefully what i ‘ve learned will transfer in my playing and I ‘ m hoping to have gained confidence! Also, with ALL the material, i have enough to review and practise for years!!!
So sincere THANK YOU Brian! I will recommend you as much as i can! Good luck to you!
MUSIC and PEACE to all!
Les Brown says
Best acoustic blues lesson you’ve given yet, and that is really SAYING something. This is outstanding!!!!
Chris H says
Another winner, Brian!
Chris B says
Hi Brian
This EP357 is such a beautiful acoustic number. Any chance of Part 2 sometime.?
Best regards Chris
Paul T says
Thanks for another great lesson, Brian. I like the way you have varied the chord voicings to make a simple 3 chords blues more interesting. It reminds me a bit of John Renbourn’s playing style, especially the descending thirds.
Jason S says
Brian this lesson is gold! Harmonising the E major scale… amazing.
I’m not sure you’d find lessons like this anywhere online.
Your tutorials are very slowly turning me into a Musician!
Thank you for everything you do 😊
Joseph C says
Buried treasure. Brian this is excellent! Fun to listen to and great learning example. Took me going through pages of lessons to find this one but so worth the time. Thanks
