Description
In this guitar lesson you’ll learn how to play the Christmas classic, “Away In a Manger” with no accompaniment. No MP3 jam track or accompaniment is required to play this. I’ll also talk through how you go about creating a solo composition from a familiar melody so that you can start creating your own solo compositions.

Hi Brian I am liking the new addition but it keep screaming Silent Night to me,,,,,
Brian says
Hey Allan, I did Silent Night last year – here’s the link: https://www.activemelody.com/lesson/silent-night-guitar-lesson-ep128/
Doug Harrison says
You know what Brian? I did your version of Silent Night last year and found it ties in beautifully with this version of Away in a Manger. By starting with the opening riff to Away, then right into Silent Night, the opening riff again, and then Away in a manger you create a mini medley. I did it last night for friends who want me to post to my facebook page. Do you still the option to post our videos of your work here. I think the two worked well together…..Thanks, Doug

Very nice to work on for Christmas. We Brits know Away in a Manger with a completely different melody to this!

I agree Brian…. not quite what I expected! So I found a version of it on YouTube so I could familiarise myself with the tune.. Looking forward to working on it! An early merry Christmas to everyone..

Sounds like a contender for “Silent Night”, too…
Doug Harrison says
Hey, I found that this version of Away in a manger fits well with the version of Silent Night you taught us lat year. I performed them a a mini medley and it went over well. Wish I could upload the video to get your thoughts.
Brian says
Hey Doug, absolutely. The forum on here has a section called “Showcase your Playing”. If you post it there, shoot me a message via the contact form. I’ll take a listen and if the quality is decent, I can share on Facebook (if you want of course).

Hey Brian! Beau here from the great north of Canada. Would you ever consider doing maybe a lesson on your take on an addition to this piece higher up on the register as you did for amazing grace? That would be narly

I’ve just been checking out some of the Christmas song. I love the Helter Skelter reference in the middle of this lesson! 🙂
