Description
This is a 3 part acoustic blues guitar lesson mini-series. In this series I will show you how to play everything you hear in the intro to these videos, which includes both the acoustic rhythm and the lead parts. I realized that I hadn’t really created an acoustic blues guitar lesson that had a lead that could be played with a pick. If there is interest I can easily create several more acoustic blues lessons like this, played with a pick.
Part 1 - Learn the First Half of the Lead Guitar Solo
Part 2 - Learn the Second Half of the Lead Guitar Solo

Do you have complete video lessons of Black Magic Woman by Santana and Cocaine by Eric Clapton?

Mongo want the rhythm! Or Mongo gets mad! :-)

Great lesson, Brian. Thanks.
demmykro says
I cannot thank you enough Brian. I can play the guitar and you have taught much of what I know.

Brian,
Amazing lesson! How did you come up with that rhythm? That’s a killer. I finally got it, but wow. The licks are also amazing. Thank you. Here is an idea. I have the whole solo, but your examples at the open of every lesson are really fast. Perhaps at the end of lesson two of the solo play the whole solo slowly. You did that in lesson 1 at the end, but not on two. Keep up the great work Brian.

Brian is Lord of the guitar teachers :-)

Brian - excellent - more acoustic blues please. Have you considered allowing downloads of the videos for premium members? That would help alot for off line practicing

For the last few months my guitar has become impossible to put down and I owe it all to Active Melody. I never would have thought I could get this far as a guitarist.
Thanks Brian

Great lessons, but can’t download tabs or backup.

Yet again, another really great lesson, any chance in the near future doing Malted Milk by EC, that would be great. Cheers Brian.

Another nice one… Thanks again Brian!!!

Wow there there are a lot of riffs in this lesson that I will use in all of my strumming. This would have taken me forever to accumulate (steal), this much knowledge back 50 years ago, when I started playing. I love all this new technology. Young players starting out today, have it made with the excelent teachers, like yourself, avaualible on the web.

Ditto, all the thanks and praise, Brian! A question:
I have the blues scale positions down now, but my playing lacks the bluesy color I hear in your applications, like when the material includes notes outside the minor blues (just one such example: the opening paired notes in EP020…where does that C# come from and how do I learn where to do this?)
Brian says
Jim, great question. The C# is actually part of the MAJOR pentatonic scale - so when I’m playing those paired notes, I’m playing one from the minor (the one on the first string) and one from the major (the one on the second) - the combination creates a little clash which sounds really nice and bluesy. The best way to think about it though is, now you know that trick (relative to the minor pentatonic scale) - so you could use that on just about any song. It’s all about adding these licks to your vocabulary. Hope that clears it up.

Been working on this on-and-off since September. Very challenging for me compared, say, to the Switzer swing lesson.
Is it acceptable to submit a clip with a modified and/or slower version with an alternate sound track?
Bruce
Brian says
Bruce, absolutely

Hi Brian,
Would any or all of your acoustic lessons work well with an electric guitar also? Does it work to just translate them over like that?
Thanks
Ryan
Brian says
Ryan, yes any of these would work on electric.

Hello Brain!
Just joined a couple of days ago mainly for the acoustic blues lessons after I saw you doing some Delta Blues on YouTube. Because I am between acoustic guitars (expecting my new Alvarez AP66 tomorrow), the past couple of days I´ve been practicing this on my Cordoba Mini M (!) and mainly fingerstyle. Not bad at all actually and great practice routine 🙂 This way I got the moves and licks down before I get my new guitar and the Mini is quite handy sitting behind my laptop….
Keep up the good work and more acoustic blues please!
Kind regards,
Victor

Is there an easier rhythm lesson on classic 12 bar blues? This is great stuff but hammering on from bar chord is a bit too tricky for me here and now.
wrightclick says
i finished the new latest lesson quite early for a change which left plenty of time to work on some archive stuff that was published before i joined . I discovered this great number but man do i miss the tab player trying to get the timing and phrasing nailed . There are somes gems in the back catalogue and i do believe if this was out today it would all be done in two lessons hell i would not complain if the early stuff was recycled as a platform for new lessons .

Download ok but can not open it

This is the first lesson I chose to work on. It has some techniques that are difficult for a beginner, but I need to learn those techniques. This has a cool sound.
