Description
In this guitar lesson I wanted to try and simplify things a bit, by limiting the minor pentatonic scale to only 6 notes and working within those 6 notes to develop licks. The 3 licks that come from those notes are repeatable (or loopable), meaning that you can play them at any point within the jam track and they’ll just work. Hopefully you’ll take these licks and add them to your own playing and learn how to transpose them to whatever key the song happens to be in.

It is very neat how Brian manages to stay just at the crest of the wave with these lessons…..getting more and more sophisticated and challenging. The kicker is that anyone who needs to play catch up certainly can by signing up and reviewing all the lessons they possibly require to learn all the necessary fundamentals!!

@Brian: Thanks for another great lesson. It would be nice if you could write down the exact times in the video where the three different licks are introduced. Or perhaps include some youtube annotations so we can jump straight to them.

Great lesson Brian. I think if you learn this and can play it in all keys then you will be on your way to being a good blues guitarist.

Now THIS is a great lesson, luv-luv- luv it!! :-)
It’s simple yet ‘advanced’ as you can jam to all kinds of songs with it. [See Ma, I am a ‘Rock Star’. (lol)]
More like it would be great.

Brian, spent today working on these licks to help build my hand back up. Wasn’t so bad and really had a great time feeling like I’m getting back to speed sooner than I imagined. Be upping the membership by end of month. Take care

great lesson …playing the same lick in 2 or 3 octaves is a really smart
way to add variety to your playing and , most importantly , forces you into thinking about the notes you are playing ( ie the 4th to the 5th to the flat 3rd to the7th and to home base in each octave . By the way boys and girls …that’s the blues…… thanks Brian ………you are an excellent teacher …..anybody who really practices this is guaranteed to become a good blues player . It’s not magic …it’s practice.

Hi Brian
Nice lesson a sound ‘right up my street’.
Seeing you bend so smoothly and accurately with such ease made me wonder about what gauge and make of strings you are using and have you thoughts about what might be recommended for a Stratocaster and in general for beginners?
Your site is really helping and inspiring me. I shall definitely be upgrading to annual membership at the end of my first sub Thanks

Brian, great lesson but I can’t download the tabs on my iPad. Can you email them to me? Also what are the chords in the jam track?

You the man Brian!!! Thanks!!!

Brian, very helpful/useful lesson for me. What are the specific chords/pattern of the backing track? I know it is some type/form of GCD, but sounds very nice and I can’t figure it out. I’d like to try changing keys at some point. Thanks!

Only two years ago and you look so much younger! What happened? Did you have a child? That did it for my young looks.
Interesting when looking through many episodes that you never seem to wear the same clothes twice. Quite a wardrobe you have! 😀

Well-explained Brian! Sounds great and the fingers just tell if they need one to put an extra note or two.I think it’s the best way to lean the scales and move across the neck.

It’s been 9 years. You would think that would be enough time to fix the links.
