As you know I posted a week or so back I told that my elder brother who is moving house left some of his guitars here. Well I was a bit hesitant about opening up the cases and having a play on a guitar or two, Last week it was the lovely Tokai love rock Les paul..
Tonight I gave in and opened up another case and..
A Gibson Les Paul Standard in what I think is a desert burst, I am sure Matt said one of his Gibsons was a 2016 and I think this is it.
Way much lighter than I was expecting, The action is incredibly low and the acoustic sustain is something else. I am not sure it is my type of guitar though because as nice as it was it didn’t feel right in my hands.

Billy, I’d be very pleased to relieve you of responsibility for it’s care.
I’ll pay postage.

If that got left at my house, it would surely “disappear”.
“Honest, I don’t know what happened to it.”
“Are you sure you left it here?” -

Your brother has great taste in guitars! Don’t feel bad … SRV used to sneak into Jimmie’s guitar collection every chance he got and look how that turned out!

You can tell him you did it for us! We’ll back you up. We’ll even help compose your letter begging forgiveness.
It sure is pretty. How many more cases are there? Can’t wait.

Billy,
How good is your brother at playing guitar? Can he teach us a few tricks?

TimImho Tim and not because he is my brother, I would say he is an exceptional guitar and bass player, The internet isn’t his thing so I’m not sure I could persuade him to put anything on the forum.

Billy, curious as to whether you can quantify “didn’t feel right” to you. Not that there’s a right or wrong answer because everyone is different. I’m curious because is it a neck thing? I know Standards are weight relieved, I have a Traditional that is rather heavy, probably like 13 pounds. For me it is weird that I’m comfortable playing a thinner neck like my Dot 335 has, while being similarly comfortable playing my Les Paul, which had a very chunky neck.

I think just the shape and width of the neck is what feels wrong in my hand mark. The guitar weighs a fraction of the Epiphone Les Paul I used to own, I think I read somewhere that there is a thought that weight adds sustain which it doesnt do…
I have 4 more cases to open and Im excited to see what lives in each one.. hahaha..Billy..

Hi Billy, are you hanging on to them for your brother just until he gets settled?
I have a Les Paul copy that isn’t comfortable at all when I’m seated, it’s wobbling, but strapped on, it’s like any other guitar.

Hi Don, Yes just until his new house build has been completed. There has been a months delay because of the harsh winter we have had this year..
