I overlooked the date of Duane’s passing which was Oct 29, 1971. Hard to believe that he’s been gone now for 53 years
Duane along with his brother Gregg and 4 other iconic musicians wrote a page in the history of rock & roll; the ABB is known as the founder of Southern Rock although they didn’t really like that term.
Like Jimi, it’s sad that Duane left us so soon at such a young age. It’s quite remarkable that Duane had only played about 10 years at the time of his death yet accomplished so much. He had a many sessions at the famed Muscle Shoals recording studio as well as working in NY with the likes of Aretha, Boz Skaggs, Wilson Picket and many others
The first time that I heard the opening lick of Statesboro Blues, it cut thru me like a knife. I’d never experienced a raw energy like that before
The final few minutes of the version of Liz Reed below was a solo by Duane; I have to remind myself that he was only 24 years old when it was recorded
