Came to this site because I am stuck in a bit of a rut. I’ve been playing the same 12 bar shuffle Blues in A & E for a while as a beginner. Now I am looking to spice it up a bit with some licks and fills, but nothing too complicated. I’m just at the point of getting the rhythm timing down where I now feel comfortable to progress. Any lesson suggestions or other tips are greatly appreciated.
Cheers!

Hi David,
Under the lessons page the lessons are broken down into categories. Check Blues-Acoustic and Blues-Electric. You can sample each directly from the thumbnail and find something that interests you.
EP 074 was a breakthrough lesson for many people as it demonstrated mixing the major and minor pentatonic for a great Claptonesque blues sound. Only problem is that it was posted before Brian included the Soundslice tab. Still, it’s a great lesson.

Thanks for the suggestion @charjo. I started checking out the Blues Lead course that I had no idea existed. Will spend time on that for a bit learning how to break out / expand beyond box 1 of the minor pentatonic scale.

Good idea, David.
One suggestion, though. Try to make music in box 1 pentatonic and maybe into the little upper extension in box 2. You don’t have to be fluent in all the boxes right away. After all, the other boxes are just different arrangements of the same 6 notes (if you include the “blue Note”). So many blues greats made careers in that little area. Spend some time learning how to mix in the major pentatonic notes within the box 1 minor before trying to learn all things minor.
Also, check the “rhythm and lead” section of the lessons. There will be some lessons on alternating rhythm with fills.
