Hi Brian. It would really be great if you could come up with a few lessons using “pubic domain” songs. For old guys like me, it is much easier to learn with songs that are familiar and already have the tune in my head. I’ve had fun with a lot of the stuff you put out but I lose a lot of it if I don’t play it every day.

Hi Bill,
So far Brian has actually done quite a few public domain song arrangements, for example:
Amazing Grace – EP007 and EP258
“America The Beautiful”
St. James Infirmary – EP261
Swing Low, Sweet Chariot – EP271
plus 6 traditional Christmas songs under Christmas Guitar Lessons category🎸JoLa

Yep, remembering AM lessons we have learned has been the subject of many forum posts over the years. By now we have over 350 lessons, and how many of those is it feasible to remember? Many professional bands shoot for being able to play for 3 hours, which equates to 30 or so songs. But science tells us that it’s much easier to remember a song that has words vs an instrumental song. Since almost none of the AM lessons have words, they are much more difficult to retain in our memories. There are about 40 lessons that I consider to be in my AM repertoire. I could sit down and play about 10 of those perfectly immediately. But for the remainder, I would have to either listen to Brian’s demo, or even have a look at the tabs to refresh my memory, then play it through a few times to get it perfect. On the other hand, I know all or most of the words to thousands of pop songs from the past, and could probably play the chords to most of them.

For the very reasons William C and sunjamr stated, I asked Brian to recommend some songs. I wanted to use songs I would recognize to apply what I have learned through AM. Brian was not receptive to the request.

Thanks for trying Jim. I guess Brian has a reason
for that. I was just thinking it would be good once in
a while. But I’m happy with what I’ve got so far.uphillbill

Hi William, first of all, I”d like to apologise for my schoolboy humour and hope I didn’t offend anyone, especially when Jola Steve and Billy were trying to help!
I too have a big problem remembering lessons I’ve learned along the way.sometimes I can’t even remember which lesson I’ve started. The way I see it is, we have grown up
hearing a lot of songs pretty regularly over many years and they have imprinted in our brains over time, whereas Brians compositions have had a relatively very short effect. I think also Brian crafts these “songs” very carefully, more to show us techniques we can use to create our own ideas.
Anyway I’m rambling on and probably stating the obvious!
Best Wishes and keep safe everyone. -
