Hi Active Melody family!
It’s August, 2024 Site Member Challenge time!
For this month’s challenge, I wanted to use a suggestion from site member, “Don O”. He recommended a challenge in which you create and record a rock riff (or any other style) or hook – like an intro or a basis to a song. It doesn’t have to be complicated, think of the little hook in “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton.
It doesn’t have to be a lead either, it could be chords or a harmony. You can record your own jam track for it or just play it solo guitar (acoustic or electric).
The submission date for this challenge will be Sunday, September 8 – you can start submitting Friday, September 6
**If you need assistance with how to record yourself and post to the forum see this post**
_______________
GROUND RULES FOR PARTICIPATION:
1. Post your Youtube, Vimeo, or Soundcloud links of you playing your chosen lesson anytime between Friday, September 6, through Sunday, September 8, 10:00 pm CST. Please do not submit earlier. I think it is fun to see everyone’s posts at once.
2. Submit individually in the “Active Melody Member Challenge Response Submissions” forum. Title your posts “August 2024 Challenge Response – [Your AM Screen Name]”
3. Please submit only a single video or audio file for this challenge.
4. Have fun and don’t be intimidated by these challenges!!! Use these challenges to help you set goals and complete them by a deadline. You can also use this as an opportunity to chat with your fellow Active Melody members and share tips or tricks on this challenge that you think are useful.
5. In my opinion, it is better to show progress versus perfection with these challenges. So if you are a beginner and can only play the first couple of measures. That is completely ok. If you play two more measures of the next challenge piece than you did the previous one, you are on track to getting better. This is what these challenges are about…you learning guitar and getting better. Remember we are all here to support you no matter what your current playing level is.
I look forward to seeing everyone’s posts! 🙂

Liam, this one was made for you!
This brings out the early 70’s teenager in me. Let’s turn our amps up to 11 and do this. I’ll be interested to see what the acoustic players bring to the party.

Oh, that’s a nice one! AC DC are one of the best examples I can think of when it comes to signature riffs. I often wondered how they were able to create one distinctive one of a kind riff after the other. And now it’s on me mere mortal to do just that! Well, I have no clue at the moment, but I’ll sure try. So no full song, just a few riffs and that’s going to be it? I’m problably going in the direction of Nirvana, Green Day or Offspring. But we will see.

Very cool idea-Yes ACDC comes to mind but so does John Fogerty and Neil Young. Lets get to work!

Ohhh! Gonna bust out my slide and play in G…maybe some chirping bird sounds to build into it. Oh wait…
Guess I’ll try a jump blues then 🙂

If I play the acoustic I might bring to the party a rendition from CCR’s Green River, that’ll be fun if nothing else.

Hi John, which guitar I choose depends largely on what kind of groove I can conjure up.
