My three favorite guitar lics plus one for extra credit;
1) G run used in a some of BG music. I have also been working on it in different keys (C and D). This is a work in progress and I can see using this while playing BG tunes.
2) EP 284 bass run E (awesome lesson).
3) EP 301 (not 391 as I said in the Video).
4) Black Mountain Rag lic (B section)… I love Doc!
I tried using Ableton Live Lite with a mic on this submission. I used a Rode NT1 with AXE IO interface and the sound was better and louder from my GoPro. When I researched the mic I learned that a preamp is not necessary but I feel like maybe it is. Any advice on getting the great sound from my mic would be appreciated.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I really enjoyed that Pap. You’ve reminded about some of Brian’s lessons that I will revisit. In some ways it’s a difficult challenge because the lessons are stuffed with so many brilliant licks. I loved to see your fingers flying over Black Mountain Rag – I remember you playing it on a recent challenge. A great choice.

Where would we bluegrass pickers be without our G run? (Much easier than the D version, by the way.)
These were all sweet! Do you jam with other pickers? You’d fit right in and probably pick up some new ones.-

Not locally Paul. I wish we had something here. However, I travel a lot not and I have found a couple jam sessions near my daughters house in TN. I have attended a few camps and they have been helpful too.

Hi pap , you got those bluegrass runs down a treat , you can’t go wrong with a Doc Watson inspired lick , EP284 is a favourite lesson of mine and is full of great lines ,as you so well demonstrated
Not familiar with EP 301 you have inspired me to give it a visit , I think maybe rich pickings !
As for advice on your mic , I would strongly recommend purchasing a fethead mic booster which fits inline between the mic and cable this will give you up to 27 db of clean headroom on your mic , you will need the 48v on your interface to power it
( I use a Scarlett 2i2 ) but it makes a world of difference, hope this helps.
Happy festive season to you .Martin

Merry Christmas to you, Pap! I already loved your video when I saw the starting picture – so much happy vibes, good humor, colours and fun transported in only one picture – great. And the video itself did not disappoint! Very good presentation of your chosen runs and licks.
I totally agree EP 284 is an awesome lesson, and thanks to you, I will have a look at EP 301.
Very enjoyable submission, thanks for sharing! 👍🏽👍🏽Bluesige Grüße

Enjoyable presentation in a cosy setting, taking us on a personal walk through of the licks and your connection with them. The playing of them was also excellent. Merry Christmas to you Pap.

Great collection of bluegrass/country licks, Pap! Love them, brilliantly played and presented!
About mic, in my opinion the secret is placing it at the right distance, usually about 30 cm far from the guitar, pointed in the direction of the 12th fret. Just tweak the gain in your interface at the limit of the green. In the DAW I always add some compression, very useful for acoustic instruments and vocals, and a bit of reverb (but if you have a natural reverb in you room, it’s not necessary).

Awesome licks, Pap. Really enjoyed this video and how you presented them!! Yeah, that last B.M. Rag lick was really awesome along with the alternate picking and you nailed it. I really liked that second lick that I hear occasionally and now I know where it came from. I need to check this lesson.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,

Hey Pap, sounding good! Your Bluegrass chops are coming along nicely. Those licks that use the open strings are a great sound.

Great collection of licks, Pap. I assume you’ve checked out EP548, which I reckon is Brian’s best bluegrass lesson.

Thanks for sharing your ideas and explanations Pap! Very inspiring!

Pap, the one starting around 1:20 is my favorite, closely followed by the one around 2:00. Sounds like a great start of a classic rockabilly song. Great presentation!
