Brian gives a LOT in each lesson, so much so that I have to take notes to get it all. But writing it all out by hand and transferring my notes to the lesson’s pdf is a lot of work. I bought a .pdf Convertor, but never got a chance to use it because a power surge during a thunder storm took out my computer … and the $30 I paid for the fancy convertor program only had ONE install.
On Amazon I found a PDF Convertor program with unlimited installs for $19.95 and it works GREAT. Now … it has NO bells or whistles … its just a convertor … but it takes you where you need to go.
Just download the TAB pdf file from the lesson. Open the Converter, select PDF to document, when the screen changes select pdf to image, click on select file, go to the folder that you saved the TAB file to and select it, push Start Converting. When the conversion is done hit Open Directory and the program will open the lesson’s TAB in MS Paint.
Once in MS Paint, the size of the TAB can be reduced, using the Text commands in Paint you can add text to the TAB … or you can select and move or delete anything you want. When done taking notes, I save the TAB as a jpeg file.
When Brian posted tonight’s lesson (EP583) I was all set up and ready to go. I downloaded and converted the TAB file as above, and kept the MS Paint program open while I was listening to Brian giving the lesson. When ever he got to something I wanted to make a note on, I brought up Paint, typed in my notes and went back to continue the lesson. Piece of Cake!
I attached the TAB I made my notes on so you can see how it turned out.

What a great way to document and learn a lesson!

I’m still playing with this program/note taking process. Using MS Paint, I went back and removed some stuff and moved other stuff round to make room for chord diagrams or other notes.
The PDF CONVERTOR is only for Windows and this brand has nothing for Apple or Linux. It is suitable for WIN 7 and versions all the way up to 11.
Working with TAB having more than 1 page is a bit more work. The Convertor converts all the pages and puts all of them in a folder. As I go through a lesson, I do have to save page 1 (as a jpeg), and then load page 2 into MS Paint to finish out the note taking.
Printing out your finished work can be done through MS Paint or the jpegs can be loaded into a WORD document, add other text on blank pages and go as crazy as you’d like. Suppose you wanted to gather ALL of Brian’s information on Triads … if you had a bindery (a machine that punches all the holes and can install the plastic spine) as I do, you could make an entire BOOK with all the notes you’d like.
The mind boggles!
Still, for me this thing is GREAT … and at $19.95 for UNLIMITED installs, its a flat out bargain.

Hi
Thanks for this explanation. I would like to cut out a couple of measures for just a lick from the lesson.
Is there anyway to do that? Thanks,

And if you have a Macbook, you can do all that in the pdf Preview, for free and without file conversions.

I haven’t tried any of these programs but there are several open source PDF editors available free of charge.
I’ve used the open source Open Office in place of MS Office for years with no complaints and I would think these open source PDF editors would work well too
