I should have known better than to join, Because I don’t think get the sound of EP 173 that Brian gets and he said you could play it on a Flat top . So the truth is I don’t believe a flat top will get his sound and if I spend a lot of learning EP 173 I sure want the sound to be like Brian Gets . I have a Gibson electric studio Guitar and a Super champ XD amp, which after thinking about it I been trying to play it by all adjustments and can not get the Brian sound. Can’t afford all the equipment he has so I guess I will have to just do the best I can . brian ifs a nice man and he has a great sound. Gil

Hey Gilbert
Welcome to the AM Family, glad that you’re hereWhile it’s fun to get the sound of our favorite players, it’s far more important that you find YOUR SOUND & YOUR VOICE
We learn to play from people like Brian, trust me, you can get a huge dose of discouragement & disappointment if you follow the “Tone Chasing Trail” too much.
People have spent large sums of money and spent countless hours trying to sound like their favorite player and they end up being very disappointed.Dig in to the lessons, ask questions if you need to and enjoy. As one person said many years ago – Enjoy where you are on the way to where you’re going

Welcome to AM Gil. There are 578 lessons to date not to mention micro lessons etc to choose from. EP 173, Slow Country in C, has lots of challenging bends and while it’s possible to play on acoustic, there are reasons Brian plays this on his Telecaster. Country twang and easier bending to name two. Some advanced players could play tree trunk and sound great while we mere mortals must do the best with what we have. Your Gibson with the neck pickup and amp clean with a bit of reverb should get you close. Play with the EQ and find something you are happy with.

Welcome to the site, Gilbert!
I think no matter what gear you get, and even if you get invited to Brian’s studio with all his equipment, you will never sound like him. Nobody will. Keith summarized it perfectly, you need to find your own sound with whatever tools you have. The reason Mark Knopfler’s guitar playing is so unique is because he did not have an amp as a young man but wanted to play rock’n’roll ✌️🙂
