My mom likes watching these monthly challenges. She texted me yesterday, wanting to know if she was waiting in vein for my submission…
I ran out of time this month. Usually, I like to put in an unreasonable amouth of effort and thought into my responses. So this one is a little more raw. I set aside an hour or so today to put this together. I noodled around with the backing track a few times, then set up the camera. And voilà. This is the 2nd take.

Yes, JFL, you can’t disappoint your mother’s expectations. But I am also pleased that you have pulled yourself together. I always enjoy listening to you play. You’ve come up with a few nice things in a hurry. And 2nd take, same as me!
Take the chance to meet your AM friends on Zoom.
The next Meetup will take place in May/JuneThere will be a detailed announcement here in the forum a few weeks before..
I look forward to meet you.

Very creative indeed, JFL! You kept the noodles constantly changing, so none of us got the slightest bit bored. Well played!

JFL
Groovy vibe
Your leads join together some bad ass rhythmic parts that ooze total coolness
Love the effects-you brought to life an otherwise dull backing track
Glad you are backJohn

Sometimes things go right sooner than you expect.
This is more often true when you have reached a level of playing experience that seems to automatically send you in the right direction and, at the same time, prevents you from doing anything really bad.
So I am not a bit surprised that with only a little warm-up you are able to produce a lively and creative and entertaining piece of music. The tone on that hollow-body guitar is also very engaging and different. Fine work. -

Cool Jazzy/Minor Blues J. I liked your dynamics…switching between subtle and aggressive picking…really added to the feel. Sounded like a live improv. at a Blues Club. (Your backup band was kind of lame though).

Great to hear you playing again JFL and you never disappoint. Loved your string scrapes, repetitive slides and use of dynamics especially. I’m sure your mum loved it as well. 👏👏👏🌟👏👏👏 All the best! 😎🎸😎

Nice stuff JFL! Like the jump blues licks you worked in there. Great tone and a mysterious vibe.
What’s the guitar?-

Thanks Bill,
It’s a 1955 Harmony H-62. Archtop hollow body. It was meant to compete with the high end gibsons of the time. The P13 pickups ( a precursor to p90s) were made by Gibson in Kalamazoo. When they stopped using the p13s, they sold they stock to harmony

Wow, that was fantastic, JFL! One hour of noodling and you came up with master improv to please our senses! No surprise there, we learned to expect that from you (no pressure 😉 ) I loved the dynamics and the quick chord slides, very cool technique to keep things interesting. That little solo by the end with some of the natural minor notes sounded so good to me, it was a cherry on top!
I think it’s so cool that your mom watches the challenges, I would never think that we have an audience outside of our little community and I’m glad she talked you into it, too!

It’s so nice that your mother watches the challenges.
Wow you just played such a cool minor lead on the fly. I love these tasty licks.
I ike that you are playing the lead based on the rhythm which is my favorite style.
Great tone and beautiful guitar!
You are an inspiration for AM.
