Hi Gil, my two cents…
I really don’t think you should worry about trying to replicate Brian’s exact tone on a lesson.
Brian will often say his lesson sounds “good acoustic as well as electric” he could easily add “any electric”. If you have a tele then it might be fun to get close but if you don’t, then play it with a tone you like on the guitar you have which you feel compliments the lesson material. Concentrate on playing the lesson well and it will sound great. If you don’t believe me, take a look at some of the entries on “Showcase your playing” in the forum. You’ll find many people have played lessons on different guitars to what Brian used and they sound excellent.
So Brian’s using the neck pickup on his tele. Switch that Les Paul to its neck
Pickup and see how it sounds. I bet it’s good 👍-

Thank you very much Andy for the great info, and I will try to get amp settings as good as possable and may a clean channel 1 maybe ok and Brian said a little over drive how ever not much. Do I have to have a pedal for over drive or can I get it on my Fender Super Champ XD .
Thanks very muck for the good Help And this looks like a great forum.
Brine is the best Teacher I seen and I am age 81. Thanks again Gilbert.

I agree with Andy N. Just be yourself and don’t be concerned about all the fancy pedals, reverbs, etc. Technique on the guitar is more important than replicating an exact sound. Sound replication can be very costly due to equipment costs, and also the amount of time it will take to learn to replicate the sound. You may just want to play a nice backing track to go along with your own sound. I do that and it makes the total sound so much more pleasant.
For me I just like to enjoy playing and learning new techniques, new chord positions, switching from chords to lead and so on.
Incidentally, it sounds like you have some nice guitars. I have a Les Paul Classic and a Fender Strat Pro…I really like both of them. The Les Paul puts out a really nice bass tone, and the Strat is a bit brighter and the action is really fast. So, depending on my mood I’ll pick up one or the other.
Enjoy the journey!!

Hey Gil, I’m with Andy and Larry. For the first few years after I joined AM, I paid no attention to tone or effects whatsoever. My focus was entirely on where and when to put my fingers on the fretboard. I figured once I learned to play better, then I could chill out and start chasing tone and effects. HOWEVER I could afford to use this approach because I never played live in front of anyone. The only person that paid any attention to my tone was me, and I got more satisfaction from skillfully playing a complex lick than making my Strat sound like Mark Knopfler.
And if you find it hard work to learn a lesson, here’s a hint: Check out some of the earlier lessons, maybe earlier than EP100 or so. They are often shorter and simpler, like only one page of tab. EP037 and EP041 for example. Be kind to your brain!
