In recent weeks, I’ve been rediscovering the music of Leon Russell. He was such an amazing musician and interacted with so many during the 60a & 70s. Those that he jammed with, supported and/or produced was like a Who’s Who list of the true musicians of that time
Wait until you see the $50 guitar that JJ Cale “modified”. I’ve never seen such a mess but it worked for him LOLThe original analog masters of this was discovered in 2001 and digitally remastered, and I’m glad that it was – this is a great jam session with some of the greats

Nice catch Keith! I have to listen to the whole thing yet but there is some cool stuff in here. I’ll bet the back stories of this session could fill a book.

There are some great tunes in this jam and every player in it was just outstanding – Not to mention Leon Russell’s humor
I love what JJ Cale did to that old flat top Harmony guitar with all of the electric pickups and even had a turnbuckle in it to hold it together
And some think that they need a handmade instrument to make their best music LOL (nothing against having a well made guitar built to your spec but some of the music in the past was made on what some would consider to be very substandard) -

Keith,
I’ll bet you caught the guitar harmonies in a few tunes that are kind of reminiscent of the ABB. May have been with Billie Boatman.Mike

I didn’t realize it until recently but Leon Russell was the top concert attraction in 1973 and this jam with JJ Cale is a prime example why he was. My wife is more familiar with Leon that I am and she told me this evening that she had never realized just what a versatile performer & musician that he was was. She was listening to his album – Leon Russell & The Shelter People – and she spotlighted various elements in his playing: blues, country, rock, classical.
I’ve never really been enamored with piano based rock & roll but listening to Leon is quickly changing that. Of course, Chuck Leavell’s performances with the ABB always stood out to me LOLHadn’t paid close enough attention to pick up on the harmonies, I’ve been too mesmerized overall with this performance
AND I’ve not listened to JJ Cale very much in that past so I’m getting a acquainted with his playing and overall performance.Lot to take in for this.
