Hi everyone!
This month completes my 2nd year with Active Melody and this is my 24th challenge response – and I almost didn’t make it! I got seriously ill in early June, ended up in a hospital and now back home but still with pneumonia, eek! So not much playing time as you might have guessed.
But I really wanted to come up with something and somehow I managed to play the lesson (the hardest part). Once I recorded that, I got inspired to mess with a … slide … a little bit and this is the result. I didn’t stray too far from the solo theme in the first half but then I added some slides to the lead part 🙂
So no video of me playing this time but at least I MADE IT! 🙆♀️😊
Watching everyone’s take on this is super entertaining, love the variety and of course, the creativity. Hope to get back to playing soon!

I am glad you are out of the hospital. And playing a slide that clean in standard tuning is no trivial feat.

Oh girl, good that you’re feeling better. And, congratulations on your 2 year membership. Nice that you have managed to put something together. You already had a great submission last month; Today I was more than thrilled! A great sound and played great. That really was a great idea perfectly realized. Chapeau!
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

That was great playing Jola. Love the slide mix.
Congrats on 2 years of this habit – can’t think of a better one either.
Sorry to hear you were so sick and glad you are on the mend. Pneumonia is nothing to sneeze :~) at. Knocks the sails out of you. (retired respirologist) So even more strength to you for being able to come up with a great challenge.Feel better.

Jola,
Congratulations on 24 consecutive submissions! Nice slide work, very clean. Be proud of your guitar playing.
Take care of yourself. I am amazed that you could even play the guitar if you have been fighting pneumonia. It can be very serious. Be well and let all the Active Melody pickers know when your recovery is complete.
Great photography and video in addition to your playing.

That has some really classic bluesy tones in the slide. Really beautiful production. The duet is awesome!

Well, I’m really blown away. That sounded so cool. But pneumonia? How does that even happen in the northern hemisphere in mid-summer? But at least you made it out of the hospital without catching something even worse while you were there.

Hi Jola,
Guitar playing is kind of a feel good activity (as you’ve discovered) I’m glad to hear you’ve found your way back to feeling well enough to pick up the guitar. You sounded great on all fronts…I may just try the slide on this one as well. That was a nice effect you achieved. And congrats on the the 24 Challenges…..
Best regards,

JoLa, congratulations on your 24th post in just as many months! That’s impressive. Your determination deserves my full respect. I wish you a speedy recovery from your pneumonia. Be careful with yourself, pneumonia is nothing to joke about. But having a medical background yourself, I am sure the last thing you need is my advice 🙂
With respect to your submission, I love it. This forum is oozing with creativity and you are one of those people I admire for their unique approaches. Thanks for the insprition. Now I want to try out my slide, too… -

Jolanta, now I don’t believe you till I see you doing it! This is not you who is playing here. Once in my youth I heard Manny Charlton playing that way. Unbelievable! I hope you get well soon from your decease.

The blend of your slide and single line leads worked so magically. This is a wonderful production on your part. I really liked it. I felt like being in-between country and Hawaiian. I guess it’s Honolulu-Nashville sound!
p.s. It’s amazing you did this recovering from what sounded like a serious setback. Your tenacity is incredible.

Great and original idea to use a slide. It sounded awesome and I really liked how you wove the two guitar parts together on the second part.
Really good to hear you’re on the mend too. -

Hi JoLa. This is the second time that I have listened to your response and I thought it was a really novel take. I always aspire to play slide, I even bought a special, hand made glass slide but it always sounds dreadful when
I try to use it so I’m very impressed with the way you seem to handle it. Thank you for your comments on my submission and congratulations on two dozen challenge responses. I’ve also read many of your comments to the other challenge responses and you can always pick out some positive, thoughtful critiques which are very supportive. Thank you. -

Absolutely beautiful, Jola. The slide part you added was fantastic, and I think you played the lesson portion as well as Brian plays it. Great stuff, Jola!

Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery! You sound like you really know what you’re doing with a slide, you’re really playing that thing—quite a surprise to hear you, hear anyone who isn’t a pro, playing it so well.

JoLa – you’re a rockstar 🙂 That was awesome. I’m glad you were able to make it, despite your pneumonia. Your playing on this was your best yet in my opinion! Seriously good stuff, very clever slide work. Glad you made it to 24 of these! That’s impressive to say the least 🙂 and thank you for always being so supportive of others in the AM community, you’re definitely a beacon around here.

Hi Jola.
What can I add to what has been said? I would like to comment something to improve or small mistake to correct, I know you will appreciate it much more than any flattery … but I can’t (Well … maybe …. why not make it longer ? 😉 )
very nice and well played slide, I know it’s not easy … I’ve tried …

Excellent. You have a really nice touch with the slide and a good ear for pitch. Your opening improv stuff was cool, and it fit in well with your adaptation of the lesson. For me, the use of long slides can become cheesy quite fast. I don’t think you took it that far, but you were teetering on the brink. That’s just a question of personal taste though.
