I almost thought I wouldn’t make it – this video here is an emergency production. Made this Saturday afternoon. Long story short – I have a new DAW (Cubase 13) and I must have done something stupid and while repairing the recording I destroyed it completely. Completely unnerved I decided to start from scratch.
Anyway, what you see/hear is me playing bass and guitar. Originally, I had a self-made drum loop, but this one here is taken from Cubase.
Sorry if this production is not what it could have been quality wise, but I hope you still enjoy.
In any case, thanks for watching!

Sounding good, Trem. Your rhythm section is nice and tight and the harmonic sixths you worked in fit nicely. Way to persevere and make a good recording.

I liked it! It seemed like you used the repetition of harmonized 6ths to create a theme throughout the song. Very nice idea.

Love the bass line, really fun and bouncy. You got the hang of those harmonies too!

This was actually very good, Kevin! Very cool tight bass and great harmony explorations in the soloing!
I also feel your pain when it comes to losing all your work. This has just happened to my producer friend with the project we have been working on for months. Terrible feeling but I’m glad you didn’t give up and quickly came up with an alternative version on the spot. That shows a true musicianship and clearly you got it down pat!

Thank you JoLa. I am really sorry for your producer friend. It’s bad enough if you lose only your own work, but having to tell my friends that months’ of their work had vanished on my responsibility would really bog me down.

Well if that was the emergency production, the original must have been awesome, because this one is sounding very pro level. A friend of mine here in New Zealand just got Cubase 13 – he had an older version and he seems to have got the hang of the upgrade pretty quick. Logic Pro has had several upgrades with much fanfare about all the tricks it can do. But I find that it just adds to the complexity of an already complex app. I think the way we solo guitarists use our DAWs is at a much simpler level than, say, a producer of electronic dance music. BTW, as the FBI will tell you, nothing is ever completely destroyed on a computer…..

Thank you Steve. I don’t even think the original was that much better. It had a self made drum track and the typical 12-bar Blues chord changes. In this one, only the bass plays three chords and in no particular order and on guitar I was under such pressure that I didn’t dare playing outside the G major scale.
And i totally agree with your second part. It is fun to play around with Cubase, but once I am looking for a specific function it gets tedious and requires a serious time investment. Considering the amount of time I spent watching YouTube tutorials last month, I should be much better with VCubase. But anyway, I won’t give up and hope to become friends with it eventually.

Hi Tremelo, I enjoyed this one. The drum and bass were clean and uncomplicated. It gave some nice room for the lead. Glad you made it this weekend.

Nice production Temelo. It’s a pity that you lost a lot of work but nevertheless you made to an awesome contribution. Sounds funk to me – well done!!! Thank you

“Du solltest den Bass mitbringen !!!!” Hahaha, I’m afraid the car is already fully packed. Also, I don’t have a bass amp, yet.

That’s a great submission – such a cool backing and inventive lead. That two and a half minutes passed very quickly.

Great rhythm and cool lead, Trem. So sorry for the difficulties, I often manage to do some irreversible damage to my productions, too.

Way to persevere Trem! I’m glad you got to get a submission in that sounds good despite the troubles. Cool that you played on your own backing track, I’ve never attempted that.

You came out with a great submission Trem, notwithstanding the technical problems, well done!

Way to go Kevin! Love the comp and bass lines, too. The 6ths in the middle were tasty!

You may be struggling, Kevin, but if you hadn’t told me, I wouldn’t have noticed. Great groovy harmony melody lines. And, man, that bass accompaniment blew me away. That adds a lot of spice to the whole thing. I had a lot of fun listening to it.

Trem,
Nice recovery from lost work. That happens to me more than I would like to admit but, I have gotten good at recovering and learning from my mistakes. Nice play. Cheers. Pap

Trem,
despite your troubles the final product is really cool. You sound great both on bass and guitar. The key I think to a good guitar piece is creating a cool groove to start. The rhythm (bass and drums are fantastic). Everything else is gravy! Well done. -
