Hello AM Friends. Happy New Year to all.
I incorporated the AM challenge with a song this month. I learned quite a bit. I watched and re-watched several of Brian’s lessons on harmonized 6ths and 3rds. I also had to play around to get the melody I wanted for the song (Summertime). Then, getting the backing track correct took a substantial amount of time. I started the video playing live and then shifted to the looper so I could play the lead over the rhythm and I even did a little singing😊 Towards the end I had to kill the looper to finish the song and it was kind of abrupt so I need to learn how to make a clean transition from looper to playing an ending. Not sure how to smooth that out but if you have some ideas or comments on my challenge, let me know. Thanks for listening/watching. I’m looking forward to seeing your submissions later today.Cheers

Great vocal and playing.
I don’t own a looper, I don’t know how you can fix this problem.
Personaly I would do without the looper.
I tried with a looper but I feel too much restriction.AndréM

You’re always learning new things, Pap! Tis the looper this time and I believe this is the first time I heard you sing as well! This sounded like a very cool arrangement of the song, I’m sure you’ll figure out the looper thing soon and next thing we’ll know you’ll be performing a gig in your local cafe!

Wow, Pap, that was great. You pulled this together so good. Everything fits together so well, your arrangement, your playing and your singing.
And you have put your own stamp on this iconic song. Not easy with such a classic and therefore doubly impressive.Take the chance to meet your AM friends on Zoom
The next Meetup will be in spring 2025There will be a detailed announcement here in the forum a few weeks before.
I look forward to meet you.

You really went for the whole 9 yards, Pap. Singing, looping, playing. And even integrating the harmonized 6. on latter, I noticed how smoothly applied them into your song. Brilliant. The song fits your voice and you should continue to do that. I didn’t think the looper ended too abruptly, but if you want it to fade out gradually, most DAWs have function that does that (fade out).

Great job, pap. The harmonized 6ths sounded great over your backing track.

Great, ambitious submission, Pap. It was good that you could apply the harmonies to your melody. I’ve never got on with my looper, Bob Utberg gave a good demo of his this month. Nice to see your lovely PRS again.

That’s an all out performance Pap , from that catchy looped track , the subtle harmonies , and a nice vocal as well it fits the tune .
As mentioned with the looper a fade out with the DAW whilst letting it run or maybe just stop it manually in the right place ( but I’m no expert) .
Well played.Martin

Hi Pap, what a project! You brough all the pieces together nicely, and kudos for the vocals. I admire that, as I have no singing voice at all. Nice rendition of a classic.

Very nice rendition of this classic Pap; I like your re-harmonization / re-chording of this song, very interesting progression. And the lead solo with harmonized 6th went really well with it. Nice vocal too, very complementary to make up this whole production.
On the looper ending, the way I try to do it to play exactly what the looper play then kill the looper early so that I could control the ending “live” (e.g. with a ritardando, etc … ) It’s hard to do it correctly, and I failed more times that I care to remember 🙂 but just thought I’d mention it if it may give you some idea …
I enjoyed your submission! Thanks for sharing.

Wow, that really was an ambitious project, Pap – well played, well arranged. But I’m not sure the singer is allowed to take a break from playing…..

I loved it, Pap! Really cool arrangement and great use of the looper. Regarding the ending of the loop I rather liked that – this gave it a dramatic pause – perhaps your own playing after the looper stopped should have began a tiny bit earlier- but I never got around to really use my looper – even if I planned to do so for many times …you did great – awesome performance! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
