I’ll be camping, sightseeing and I guess touring a bit along the Sea of Japan.
This is an NHK video of James Hobbs doing Shimane Prefecture. This is where I’ll be and then going up to Tottori Prefecture.
https://www2.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/ondemand/program/video/cycle/?type=tvEpisode&This is my bike, a Giant R3 Escape 2019 model
I did a “trial” type of camping about 2 hours away the other day. I took a ice coffee break here at 7-11 convenience store. Any John Deere fans here? LOL
This is my way of camping. Simple. Can of sardines, crackers and some water for dinner. But where’s the cold beer? Hmm, next time maybe.

It really is all about ”melody”. The melody comes from a language from our heart. Our heart is the muscle in music harmony. The melody is the sweetness that it pumps into our musical thoughts on the fretboard. 🙂 6 stringer Pete

All the best Pete, I just wish I had your energy. The videos you attached looked very attractive places to visit, hope the weather holds for you.

Hey Richard, thanks. Energy I think is my second name. LOL
For real, I’m not one for sitting around and watching tv or looking at a computer screen all day. Well, computer for info on biking, guitar and education stuff.
Yesterday we had a typhoon past by so I hope next week, no typhoons. Got my fingers crossed. I need to find a way to use my android and log into here and post my adventures. Stay tune.
Not sure if this will show up, but this is kind of my route, not the same that I’ll be taking but close.

Hi Dieter. Have you ever cycled in Japan? I’ve been cycling locally for 20 years, but never did anything like this. Loads of beautiful scenery.
This is a map. Sorry I think most of it is in Japanese, but maybe there is a way to translate it.

Up to Kaga which is about 800 km. Never been to Tottori before. There is a desert there, for real.Hope the Asian sun isn’t going to be too hot, but this summer has been extremely hot here, up to 38c. Of course, you won’t find me cycling in that type of heat. I’ll be mostly along the ocean so I can jump in for a swim.
I’ll try as I mentioned with Richard to figure out a way to post here with my Android.Stay tune.

That looks like a really cool ride Pete. Please post pictures. How many km do you do a day? I’m a weekend warrior cyclist myself. Typically ride 20-25 miles a day and have never done an overnight. Having some shoulder trouble though so am making switch to a recumbent.
It’s kind of like starting riding all over again. Everything is different, but it is super comfortable and faster than the upright.

Hey Doug, I could see me with one of them some day in the future. Vietnam Vet, so I’m not that young no more. LOL
For me, now I can go about 4 hours riding, back when I was younger I was going 6 to 7 hours on a Sunday.
I’ll pace myself at about 50 km (about 30 to 35 miles) a day. Depends on the temp and wind. I got to learn how to post with the Android phone, be studying up on that today, hope I can figure it out. I think it can be done.
Thanks Doug. This is out in the countryside near where I live.

Hey Lights
We get a lot of Europeans cyclist coming to Japan. I didn’t know about all the cycling here since I’ve only done cycling by myself, but recently in this town, its caught on big time. 5 bike shops I can count all within a short distance of each other.
Anyway, typhoon moving in so I’m postponing leaving till the weather clears up.The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete

Glad your enjoying your trip.
Am looking forward to getting back on my bike in 4/5 weeks time, we tend to use them as a main mode of transport when on holiday and have them on the back of the camper.
Will keep an eye out for updates.

Hey SC
Had to postpone leaving at the moment. Typhoon #10 moving in and it will be rain for a couple of days after that. I’ll keep ya posted. My panniers arrived now so I’m all packed up, just waiting for the weather report update, although today is fine weather. Hey guys, I uploaded some pictures of my trip on the “media files” here on the forum. Have a look. We had 2 typhoons and the waves were big so I didn’t hit the beach to cool off in the summer heat. Also it rained and rained and more rain. Pictures are not so good, but I guess I enjoy the little adventure. It was about 7 hours between the train rides and biking to the campsite. It was hot. LOL
enjoy the picturesThe melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete

Thanks for sharing Pete. I’ve not seen a lot of photos of the Japanese countryside, so was interesting. Beautiful beach. Looks like a heavy load on that bike. Pretty cool adventure.

Well, you know I had to rough it. Some cans of sardines and crackers for dinner, now that is real camping.
Sorry to say it rained and rained and more rain.

Here are some pictures.
This is my camping gear, not sure how much it all weigh in, but wasn’t too heavy. Packed the night before leaving.
At the train station, 6 am Coffee time, nope. Too excited.
Waiting for the train. Had to walk up and down them stairs
Countryside train station. No master station attendent
Small train station, well kept up
Inside the train, bike is against the wall. Train was somewhat empty this time of morning
Finally made it to the campsite. Many campers.
this is the beach. Because of the typhoon, the waves were pretty big.
The beach cafe. Closed early though.
Iwami Seaside Park in Shimane, Prefecture
Sunset, rain clouds coming in soon.
Really a nice campground and beach and everything was all clean
Kind of a bummer because rain was coming in for the next 4 days. Leaving and waiting for the train
Small station, this was a bike ride from the campground. Coming back, the hill was all downhill which was fun. LOL
for more pictures, please see my “media” file on my profile.
I had a pretty good time, but the rain really cut me short. The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete
