Billy asked for Bryce’s backing track for Honey Hush. It’s a 1,4,5 major blues in B flat. There’s 5+ minutes worth here and should be downloadable from Soundcloud. Let me know if there’s any problem. Steve, if you want to add bass +/- drums, that would be cool.

That’s nice! Bryce, you sound great! Thank you, John.
“Honey Hush” was written and originally performed by Big Joe Turner (in 1955 or ’56, I think). It falls into a I IV V pattern, but it isn’t at the beginning, it’s a vamp (I think).
I’m doing it backward. Going to check out your solo in a little while.

I can always count on you Don! I did not know that Big Joe Turner originally performed the song. Very cool!

Hey Bryce, great “seeing” you!
I’ll bet Big Joe Turner picked some of it up from somewhere else too. I think I’m going to make him the main subject of the next Blues Roots—not because I know so much about him, but because Doc Pomus said “Rock and roll would have never happened without him” and Elmore James played on some of his records.

Collins plays with a capo and flat F or whatever John,, but still no problem all considering for those wanting to try it even in standardard tuning/without capo.. just to keep the ball rolling

I have it now thanks John. All I have to do now is figure out where B flat is or its alternative.

Bryce was being a little perverse choosing that key.

Forcing yourself to learn perverse things is what gets you better. Like perverse intervals and modal theory. Right, John?
Everyone plays the key of A, C, D, E, etc. Playing Bb will really help you not freak out when a horn player looks at you and says play this song in Bb. I also picked Bb because I can sing in A and Bb is not a stretch. It also lets me keep the “don’t play two songs in a row in the same key” thing working at the jam.

Thanks to both John and Bryce for trying to bring the rest of us up there with them.
That’s one of the great things about this site!
You should both be thinking about giving lessons.
