Here is nice warm-up: traversing all the CAGED shapes in the key of G major and using swing-style phrasing (30’s swing, Western Swing, Gypsy Swing).
Note the mixture of scale runs and arpeggios, as well as the indispensable triplets.
…if your guitar doesn’t have a cut-away (like mine), you’ll have a hard time with the E form all the way up the neck! I usually stop at the G shape.
Of course, since this is all based on CAGED, you can transpose all these phrases in other keys.
