I travel about five days a week, those days are the days I’m most likely to have some downtime. This is when I practice if I’m not writing or editing songs. I can download the first, “free” video, the in depth and second video that invariably has some of the real meat of the lesson, can’t be downloaded. I can see that it may be to protect your material, but it’s a pain for me. I can take a downloaded video, put it in my DAW, loop a part I may be working on, slow it down if necessary… in other words it’s immensely useful and speeds up the learning curve. All this being said, I really enjoy the material, as well as Brian’s sensibilities as a musician and guitarist. Brian, your melodic bent fits me like a glove, love to listen, jam along with duet material. So much can be said with the right few notes in just the place, worked to express the emotion of the piece. I do appreciate this. Your take on the things you teach helps open my ears to new things, fills in the gaps a self taught long term guitarist can have, and sends me off on many a long winded exploration of what I’ve just heard…. one of the reasons it can take me a while to get through a lesson. 🙂 I hear something really tasty, start experimenting with it, start playing right over teacher, and several minutes later…. oh, yeah, umm, where was I? what’s that you were saying, Brian?

I am often in a place with no internet or cellphone reception. So I print out the tabs, watch Brian’s lesson videos, and frequently pause them so I can make notes on the tab sheets. My annotated tab sheets plus the downloaded MP3 files are enough to remind me of what Brian said and did in the video.

Thanks SunJammer! I’ll experiment with your ideas. I appreciate you passing them along. Kinda like the show of community here…

Hey Dr G. that’s very cool that you’re taking tangents like that and exploring concepts.. nothing will make you grow faster than a curious mind like that. That’s how I’ve learned everything is by doing that very thing. I’ve always considered myself a professional noodler 🙂
As for the Part 2 videos, The site isn’t designed for video downloads – that’s partially because it goes against subscription (i.e. if you have all content saved locally there’s no need to subscribe). It’s set up to be more like a Netflix type subscription where you gain access to videos.
That said, you can download the MP3 jam tracks and the tablature.
However, since the Part 1 videos are hosted on YouTube, there are options for downloading YouTube videos to your hard drive. One that I know if is a Firefox (browser) plugin which you can see here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/download-youtube/
If you do go that route, you’re on your own – I don’t offer support on downloading YouTube content.
The Part 2 videos are hosted via Vimeo.

Thanks, Brian! I do download the first “free” video, and get as far as i can with it. Take what time I can when I’m in wifi land, and practice the in depth. There’s always a work-around for those motivated enough to persevere. I figured the video situation was to protect you and your business, and I truly respect and honor that. You provide a service, and should be compensated for it. My work around seems to be: forming into getting what i can by going over your videos repeatedly; using the mp3’s to play along with, slowing them down to whatever speed suits my memory for that spot; and then going back to the video if i discover there’s a hole in my memory. (not that THAt ever happens, lol, I did survive being a musician on the road in the early 70’s…) I’ve just started here, drawn in by your take on David Gilmour, discovered your lesson the Dorian mode and Carlos Santana, bought in and am enjoying myself very much. I have a song I’m working on in the Latin Rock vein, key of Em, that I found myself using notes in the lead that I had no explanation for why they worked so well for me… So you, Carlos, and the Dorian have given me just what I was looking for, as well as that chorus/break I was looking for. After listening to your explanation, I looked over the chord structure for the chorus, and realized I had already written what was needed, but didn’t recognise the possibilities. I will be happily jamming/writing/editing in the studio now. I’m attaching the first work tape (even though it’s an mp3) done while on the bus, for “Dream Woman”. also, thanks for the reply, no worries about protecting and respecting yourself, thanks so much for putting it out there.
