He was such a true country singer and musician.
My mother had many of his LP’s. Wish I had them. They were damaged when our basement flooded years ago.
The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete
It really is all about ”melody”. The melody comes from a language from our heart. Our heart is the muscle in music harmony. The melody is the sweetness that it pumps into our musical thoughts on the fretboard. 🙂 6 stringer Pete

On the wings of a dove I remember hearing. He was someone that my folks and their friends listened to. He sure lived a long life surrounded by some notable people.

I remember Ferlin and many others of that era. Sonny James, Marty Robbins, etc.
My favorite was Don Williams, he was one of the few that didn’t sound so much like anyone else. He was Don Williams. What you saw was what you got.
When the Time/Life ad comes on TV, selling that collection it seems like a different universe compared to what is termed country music today. To me, today’s country music sounds like recycled Lynyrd Skynyrd sang with a twang. It doesn’t seem like the originality is there in much of it. Everyone wants to clone themselves from others instead like, say SRV, who took from others and developed something new that was his.
Always cracks me up when I hear someone on CMT singing with a country twang, just giving it everything they have and then when interviewed, they sound like they are from the east coast or Minn or Wisc. Anywhere except the south -

You’d think that you had learned by now not to read a post or open a thread from Butch, or an email from me with coffee in hand. lol…

what both of these songwriters have in common is that; they make every word tell a story
