Happy New Year AM family!
This month, I tried to keep my challenge short and to implement some of the suggestions Bobby gave me after our “one-take-challenge”:
– do not always start on beat one of each bar
– play notes in a greater variety of time, e.g. I tried to play some faster notes over this slow backing track (that was quite difficult for me, not sure if I did it right).I also tried to follow some Brian’s rules for the challenge:
– mixing major and minor pentatonic scales
– playing in mixolydian mode (which sometimes is the same thing as mixing minor and major notes – if I understood it correctly).During the holidays I painted the walls of my blues-basement in a new color and I am rather happy with the result. What do you think?
Anyway, here is my challenge response for December 2024:
Have a happy AM weekend!
Cheers,
Juxi.Bluesige Grüße

Well done Juxi. The variation on speed and rhythm really grabbed my ears. The 6 to 9 slide was perfectly placed and the bends were so expressive. And the paint looks great! 😀

Hi Juxi, you now have a green blues-basement! I like it. The guitars stand out nicely against the calm green.
Nice playing over this track. I agree that finding the right fast line to go over the slower track is challenging. You did well.
Happy new year! -

Cool to hear you play with the timing on the notes. Sounds good and a unique take on a. Slow track.
Nice colors, both in playing and on the walls 🤘 -

It looks so nice in your new blues cellar, Juxi. You’ll probably spend even more time there now.
And your solo is 1A. I’d say all your plans have worked out. And these fast runs! I thought about it too, but then didn’t dare. But you have mastered them. Also some nice bends in there.
Du hast dir diesen schönen Blueskeller wirklich verdient!Take the chance to meet your AM friends on Zoom
The next Meetup will be on March 29, 2025There will be a detailed announcement here in the forum shortly.
I look forward to meet you.

Congratulations on your blues refuge. You’ve done a great job. I’m always impressed by your collection of Perry Rhodan Silver Editions.
But that shouldn’t detract from your excellent interpretation of this challenge. Excellently played and full of ideas. Great!!!Viele Grüße aus Ostwestfalen

Love the groove, Juxi – had a great feel and timing when moving from fast to slow licks, it really added additional interest 👍🎶😎

The paint looks great and your guitars (and 6 strings instruments) collection even more 😅!
Very nice composition, Juxy, very well crafted and played with a brilliant groove: the Bob & Brian’s advice and lessons had a very good result in your playing!

Holy Cow Juxi!!! Thank you for mentioning me in your sub – what a great friend! And YES:
You stayed off of Beat One AND mixed rhythms brilliantly!~! When I listen to someone like B.B. King, it’s NOT the lightning speed or these freakish scales/modes/patterns!!! It’s his PHRASING AND TIMING!! I’m working on a ton of Blues songs for a Blues Jam in October. One of his hidden gems (again, IMHO) is a song called Bad Case of Love. His solos are just soooooooooo brilliant. The timing. The syncopation. The space he leaves between:
Here it is: https://youtu.be/xKM1P9UPkY4?si=I6pLYjLJpgYTV-ZY
Take a listen my friend! Straight feel. So cool! Especially between 1:58-2:45. Check out bass solo too!!Bob U. (aka Bobby Ut)

Nicely played, Juxi. Those are excellent goals you started out with, especially playing a variety of note speeds. Also one thing we often forget about is the dynamics….playing softer, then louder, then emphasizing certain notes or chords.

Short and sweet, Juxi!
Bobby’s solid advice opened some new horizons in your playing and this was a nice demonstration of that. I like the rhythmic variety and some note repetitions, it’s like you were saying something with your fingers 🙂Oh, and I looooove the shade of green you used for the studio walls! I’ve actually thought about repainting my room and I would most likely pick a similar color 😍😜

Loved it Juxi. A very melodic and creative submission with many guitaristic elements on show here. And your sound … the audio down here listening in my lounge (all the way down here in Oz) was crystal clear! ✅✅✅ Also, fantastic music room you have, looks incredible! Happy New Year and all the best! 😎🎸😎

What a nice looking Blues basement😃.
I like these soul slides and tasty bends.
That one bend in the middle sounded excellent. Great phrasing with leaving space.
Well done, Juxi.

Hey Juxi – first things first – great colour! It is very complementary to the guitar colours! Love it! Nice playing too btw! 🙂

Very nice, Juxi. I think Bobby learned about smiling in his videos from you.
I always am struck by how gorgeous that guitar is and the tone was great. Do you find it useful to have the 24 frets? If I ever succumb I think I would opt for a 22 fret version, although, that finish could win me over.
P.S the room looks warm and sophisticated.

Hi John. Thanks for your kind words. I love my PRS and it plays very well, but the 24 frets really are not very useful for me. I think 22 will do just fine.

Hi Juxi , you added a lot of variety to the track with some real nice moments that passage at 0.25 was sweet , the slides were a standout as well .
Love the colour of your blues basement it compliments your guitars on the wall .Martin

Nice wall colours Juxi 🙂 but most importantly great submission, with interesting “looping” licks and I’ve also enjoyed those sliding double stops, superb!
If I wasn't making mistakes I wouldn't be the kind of player I want to be. Perfection is dangerous.

That was top notch Juxi, pleasure to listen to. Melodic and tasteful phrasing. The basement looks great in the earthy tones. In fact, the olive green could work as a green screen for you as well.

That’s an excellent sub Juxi. I like that rhythmic element to your playing it injects some life into the backing track which is so low key. The bends were super sweet and spot on too.
I think the new basement colour is an excellent choice too. It shows you have exceptional taste and style. And I’m not just saying that because it looks identical to the colour of my study/music room 😅 -

What a delightful submission. Great mix of goodies in there, well balanced, and clean.

Well, I’m a couple weeks late on getting to this, but the paint job is sweet and the playing is, too. While respecting the backing track, you made good use of the various scales on that pretty PRS. I have a single-cut one similar to yours, but without the fancy paint job.
Apologies for being late to the party. I got my dates all wrong and then competing life events took me over.
