I just had the great pleasure of hosting our fabulous former forum administrator, Bryce, for 5 days at my home in Mississauga. Bryce is just as you probably imagine, except much taller, long and lean at 6′ 2″. Funny how the internet distorts that. Anyway, Bryce is the nicest, most thoughtful and considerate guy with a great sense of humour. He puts everybody around him at ease and fits himself right in. He really knows his way around a 12 bar and showed me lots of great stuff. We were totally guitar compatible and I wish he was nearby to be my jam buddy, instead of in the far corner of the continent. I think we would both benefit. I highly recommend Bryce as a guest, in spite of my daughter’s concern about internet strangers! To highlight Bryce’s sense of humour, he told us we didn’t at all seem worried about his presence when he peeked in on us in the middle of the night. Yikes! Bryce’s visit topped off a great summer in which I also got to spend time with Gary W in Nashville. Go visit and host your AM friends, you already know you have a lot in common.

A Bryce sighting! Cool beans. I assume you did your best to drag him back.

Bryce is a true Alaskan, Texas ex-pat, no keeping him here.

That’s so cool. So glad you guys got to jam together and hangout. If Ale, Billy, or Lights are hosting overseas I’m there. Love the hosting idea, if I lived alone and in a bigger place I’d host in a second.

Guess, we’ll just have to meet up in New Orleans, Chicago or Austin then.

Fantastic. So glad this visit happened. Bryce does seem like a great guy, despite his excessive height!
And I echo what you said about visiting and hosting AM friends. We should all do more of that.

….and that includes revisiting AM friends. I must say, Bryce was very handy for reaching things in the top cupboard.

I’ll put this skill on my resume and LinkedIn profile page. 😆
Such an excellent trip. I enjoyed hanging out with you John. John also has a witty sense of humor, despite not being able to reach all things in his kitchen.

I’ll forgive that comment, Bryce, and assume you are still jet lagged. Don’t design anything too critical today.

Reads like you guys had a real good time, I was wondering why Bryce was quiet on forum it’s because he is off galavanting( great word that, and means to go from place to place seeking out entertainment and amusement), Sadly at this moment in time and won’t for the foreseeable future have room to house anyone on a European galavant..

Absolutely, Scott. I’m right next door to Oakville, in west Mississauga. Bring the Little Sister when you visit the sister!

I did not at the request of John. It definitely made it easier to travel across North America.

Steve,
Didn’t you see my guitar cupboard, plenty to go around. Bryce and I did bond over a PRS Custom 22 at one of the local shops, though.

That is just way too cool! It sure sounds like you two had a blast. So was Bryce also showing you the ropes how to administer the AM Forum? 😉 😉

That’s great seeing yous hanging out together. Thanks for sharing!
I agree about meeting up and hanging out. Easy for me to say. I barely have room for myself, I won’t be hosting anyone, but if you’re going to be passing through New York City, do get in touch.
The internet does make people look smaller, doesn’t it?

Extremely cool! I wish it would be easier to make meetings like this happen. But it’s not impossible, as you have just proven. Thanks for sharing!

Perhaps someday we could organize an A.M. retreat somewhere centrally located where a bunch of us could meet up for a few days. May have to have one in North America and another in Europe because of so many members all over the world.

It’s such a nice idea. Bryce was working on this in the background at one point. It was going to be a small group trial run but just never came to pass.

The only way there is ever going to be an AM forum get together anywhere is if we organize and pay for it ourselves.
After my friend and jam mentor Richard’s death I realized life is too short not to meet some of the AM members I have forged friendships with over the years.
John was kind enough and had the work schedule to accommodate this trip. I just booked it and because there is always a million excuses not to go or put it off. I even renewed my passport for the first time in 12 years.
Even if you are driving hours somewhere to meet at a coffee shop for a short time with an AM member you are good friends with online, I highly recommend it.
I am hoping Gene (Scattercreek) is still planning on coming up next summer to stay with me. It didn’t work out this summer as he had to fill in at work for a colleague on Maternity leave.
