Rory isn’t mentioned much any more; EC, Jimi, Page, Beck, etc grab all of the attention these days.
Rory is in the league with SRV, Gary Moore, Jimi and WOW’d the audience during his career. I’ll post some of his live performances
Rory died far too young, he was only 47 when he passed away
From Wikipedia, regarding his death:
In the later years of his life, Gallagher developed a phobia of flying. To overcome this, he was prescribed various drugs. Gallagher also had a series of health problems for which he was prescribed steroids (e.g. thyroid disorder, psoriasis, asthma).[10] By the time of his final performance on 10 January 1995 in the Netherlands, he was visibly ill with severe abdominal pain and the tour had to be cancelled. He had been prescribed paracetamol for the pain, a drug that can be extremely harmful to the liver when taken in large doses and for long periods of time.[66]Gallagher was admitted to London’s King’s College Hospital in March 1995, and it was only then that the extent of his ill health became apparent; his liver was failing and the doctors determined that, in spite of his relatively young age, a liver transplant was the only possible course of action.[67] After thirteen weeks in intensive care, while waiting to be transferred to a convalescent home, his health suddenly worsened when he contracted a staphylococcal (MRSA) infection, and he died on 14 June 1995, at the age of 47.[34] He was unmarried and had no children.

I don’t know, Keith. I didn’t know Gallagher when I was younger but as I became aware of him I still haven’t become much of a fan. I don’t know if it’s the vocals, the tone, the riffs or solo styling but his playing never quite grabbed me.
That guitar has had a life about as tough as Rory himself.
Sounds like Rory suffered lots of inflammatory conditions. If we had all the new “biologicals” at the time he might still be with us.

I didn’t hear of him until just recently. I think he played with a style of Jimi, SRV, Jimmy, combined. Sad to have lost him so early in his career.

That Strat certainly tells a story, probably the most naturally “relic’d” guitar in history. For me Rory was always at his best live, his live recordings had a raw power and drama that didn’t seem to transfer to vinyl.

I find some similarities of Johnny Winter in Rory’s playing too.
Here’s something interesting – 4 players: 2 from Texas, 2 from Ireland
Consider the similarities between Gary Moore & SRV and Johnny Winter & Rory. It’s obvious that Albert King was a huge influence on Gary & SRV
I wonder who the common influence was for Rory & Johnny Winter?Keith

I think I just read something about Rory’s daughter starting a fund raiser to buy his guitar and keep it in Ireland…I hope she’s successful.
I read somewhere Johnny grew up listening to Muddy Waters, Lightnin’ Hopkins, and Willie Dixon.

I hope she succeeds as well. If that was the first Strat in Ireland, its fitting that it would remain there.
Speaking of the other superstar from Ireland, Gary Moore, I find it somewhat tacky that the Les Paul that he played for much of his career, that he traded Peter Green to get is now referred to as “Kirk Hammett’s Greenie”.
I’m sorry – Yes Kirk is a great player but he’s not put a fraction of the time on that guitar that Gary did. Most disrespectful to Gary’s legacy…
Clapton had Blackie his favorite black Strat that he’d pieced together from 2 or 3 Strats, played it thru much of the 70s & 80s
Can you imagine if Taylor Swift bought that guitar and Fender came out with a replica calling it the Taylor Swift Blackie?!?!Disrespectful boys and girls – disrespectful!!!!

I’ve just noticed that a Gibson Custom Shop “Kirk Hammett Greeny” has just pitched up in my local guitar shop with an asking price of £19,500!
Is it that much extra work to wire pickups out of phase, which is what I think made Peter Green’s Guitar sound so different? Hmm think Gibson may be disrespecting their customers too 🤨
