I have been trying out various ways to temporarily store what I play while trying to develop a melody. The development happens in small pieces like one bar or two bars at a time. Each time backing track cycles through the bar, I play again and again trying to perfect it or trying a different set of notes each time. Linearly recording makes it difficult to retrieve and synch the best one, later. I found Reaper was able to meet this requirement. There is a facility to loop the playback track and when Record is enabled in another track, it records like a stack. Once I stop, all the loops I played will be shown on the track as a stack and we can cycle through each one and select the one we want. This way I was able to focus on the musical side of this process without worrying on how to record the multiple ideas that come up while trying to develop a melody. The melody uploaded below , I composed while listening to the backing track. The backing track was downloaded from Youtube. (Gm-Gm-Gm-Gm – Cm-Cm – Gm-Gm – Dm-Cm-Gm-D7#9).
Hope this helps anyone who has a similar situation !

Sounded awesome Sukumaran, very David Gilmore like. Nice use of arpeggios, phrases and leaving the spaces. Thanks for sharing. All the best! 😎🎸😎

thank you Garry. I am trying to learn on using the main elements of blues that you have mentioned. Unless I attempt actual playing, learning will not happen. The features like takes and lanes of Reaper appears to be the right tool for supporting this.

Very atmospheric minor blues composition, Sukumaran! The chord progression is similar to the intro of Shine on You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd at a faster tempo (in fact a minor blues) which is one my favourite song. Very well played!
