Years back, I recorded this. It’s hard to imagine all this is fingerpicked by Mark Knopfler. Additionally, I think the rhythm parts are equally as challenging. Played on my old (and first) Strat which was gifted to one of my sons.

The genius of Mark Knopfler, exemplified by the skill of John H. This was by far the most difficult solo I ever had to learn. Well done, as always, John.

Bravo John!🙌🙌🙌🙌
This is professional level performance! Please upload the whole play.
I have this song in my to-do list for way too long. Not sure when I’ll be capable of playing it😅

So basically what you’re saying is you’ve been an excellent player for years! 😁 Excellent playing John!

Tough one to master John and very well played too 😊. How did you learn this? By ear only?
I remember years back when I was at university residence, there was a guy above me who played this perfectly. The only problem, is that is all he played and he drove everyone nuts.
I thought about doing this but never did because it would probably take forever to do and I have my hands full with Flamenco and Brian’s lessons as it is.

Geoff,
I learned this with TAB and by listening. This would be right up your Alley. Knopfler play edit with his fingers. There’s a rhythm part that is both iconic and cool. You could do it on the side while you are mastering your classic arrangements! Thanks,
John

Hi John, I think I could learn it the same way. Kind of tempted. This is just such a classic lead that everybody knows.
As a side note, my guitar looks identical to yours except that it is a Squire. One thing that is definitely nice on the “proper” fender version is the slick fretboard – I get a nice sound out of the squire but the fretboard is a little rough.

Nice job John. I remember when this was the “it” song for geetar players to learn. The hardest part for me was the little percussive nuances Knopfler throws in. Your Strat sounds great, and looks great. Mine is a sunburst too, but with a maple neck. I’m sure your son really values your gift to him. Keep it in the Family!
Stay Well John,
Ralph
