Hi Everyone,
For the November challenge I’ve chosen a few licks that I like & use a fair bit, and applied them in a 12 bar blues in A.
I think this is my favourite way of playing at the moment – occasional chord stabs here and there along with licks or arpeggios to suggest chords when they aren’t actually there in the background.
The first part of the video is the blues play-through, which showcases the licks. The second is a brief explanation – which wont be necessary for most people – but it’s there if it is useful.
Thanks for taking a look/listen – I’ll now look forward to a lick heist, stealing from the entire community!!!!!
Best wishes
Gary

Very well presented Garry – clear explanations which means that when I need a few notes to fit somewhere I’ll know exactly where to plunder them from. Also a good idea to put them altogether – that never occurred to me.

I’ve got this stacked under favourites as I’m coming back to steal these. First off, that was a very tasty stand alone blues, beautifully played, but the value for me was your clear explanation of why you used a particular lick at a particular point and how it related to the underlying chord. I don’t think I pay enough attention to that in my own playing.

I am impressed by how deliberate and clean these moves are… which is understandable perhaps given your clear understanding and careful breakdown of the pieces. I use a lot of these licks myself, but until now didn’t attempt to understand them. Nice work.
That is also a beautiful Tele.

Beautifully and articulately played Gary. The presentation was something I would like to see more of in how players interpret content from Brian’s lessons and what they do with it. Found this show and tell presentation so interesting and pro level.

A very elegant and enjoyable lick choice Gary, thank you for the explanations too!
If I wasn't making mistakes I wouldn't be the kind of player I want to be. Perfection is dangerous.

What an awesome presentation, Gary!
Love how you divided the licks based on what chord they’re played over, like IV or V chord.
Now I know how to arrange my (new) lick collection in my head.
Great bluesy licks, so well played, too 🙂🎸JoLa

That’s a fine collection of blues licks there Gary , I also prefer that standalone style of playing, your explanation is very clear and concise and a good future reference for ideas .
Classy guitar as well , great tone 👌Martin

Some very nice licks! My favorite is no 6 that leads into a 6 chord.
I like your explanation, you would be a good teacher. That’s a beautiful Fender Tele with a sweet twangy tone.

Beautifully done, Gary, a terrific submission which could become easily an AM lesson! Kind of an anthology of Brian’s licks in a 12 bar blues rearranged in your own way and style. Full of licks and phrases to borrow, brilliantly played and explained!

Great composition, great licks, great playing, Gary. Love your chord work at the beginning also. Excellent solo blues overall. Also, your explanations in the second half were very informative.
Now is see where all those different varieties of excellent posts in the past have come from. Man, you got chops!
