THIS IS MY RENDITION OF BRIAN’S BEAUTIFUL GOSPEL/SOUL/BLUES BALLAD. I’M SELF-TAUGHT AS A MUSICIAN, AND AM IS MY FIRST GUITAR LESSONS. I LEARNED A LOT OF STUFF THE HARD WAY, BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSONS I’VE LEARNED FROM BRIAN IS PHRASING, LEAVING SPACE, TELLING A STORY WITH MUSIC, AND PLAYING LIKE A SINGER. I’M GETTING IT!
I ADDED MY IMPROVS AT 1:18.
I’M 98% HAPPY WITH MY PLAYING ON THIS. (I USUALLY RUN ABOUT 90%), SO I AM MAKING PROGRESS.
THANKS FOR LISTENING. SOUNDS BEST WITH HEADPHONES. GREAT BACKING TRACK BY QUIST.

That’s really good Ralph! You should be happy with your playing. The improv fit in perfectly too. 🎶👌

Thanks Mike. I’m slowly getting back into playing. Still a little rusty.

Superb Ralph. Melodic, expressive, phrasing a big tick too! Your impro worked beautifully as you used similar lines and phrases that fitted perfectly. So good to have you back on board and hearing your playing. Keep ‘em coming and all the best! 😎🎸😎

Thank You Garry. I’ve always loved ballads, and apparently Brian does too because he puts a lot of soul into his ballads. Loved learning this one. It’s good to be back, and finally get to some of my many saved lessons.

Sounds good, buddy.
I checked out the first video lesson and had to laugh at Brian saying before the turnaround that he “hadn’t really followed the chords until now.” Brian’s ear always pushes him to a phrase that incorporates a chord tone within the scale even when he doesn’t try.

Thanks John. Brian does play very instinctively, and lets his ears tell him where to go. He seems to be able to do that in real time. I do it at a slower level, and sometimes can do it on the fly, but sometimes I need to pause and find the notes that I’m hearing. Like Santana said, playing guitar well isn’t easy, never was easy, and never will be easy. Just have to put in the time and the work. Brian has obviously worked his ass off to play at his level. I’ve heard him say that he wasn’t particularly talented, and he had to really work at it. Like my man Ringo said “It Don’t Come Easy”.

Thank You Helen. I love Brian’s Gospel/Soul/Blues songs. It’s about time I had some lessons, huh? Learning new things all the time from Brian.
