I’m just hanging around my house, chilling out from my 7th (but milder) chemo. I’m doing just fine, but one thing I know for sure: I have more spare time than you do. To occupy that spare time, I sit around and watch music videos and concerts on Youtube on my big screen TV. Yesterday I watched a concert that Joe Walsh put on last year for US veterans. It reminded me that Joe is one of the most creative and innovative guitarists ever. It’s obvious that he loves singing and song writing, but his real passion is playing the guitar.
Joe plays several quite different guitars during this concert. Check out his technical skills on his red Ibanez at about 16 minutes into the concert:
It’s also good to see Stephen Stills looking a bit healthier than he has been lately. He joined Joe for a couple of songs, and showed that he can still do his amazing improv magic.

Joe Walsh is one of the greatest of our time. His versatility and his phrasing has always been exemplary
I’ve always loved the solo that he and Don Felder played on Hotel California

Was that Tom Bukovac on the red SG playing with Joe on Turn to Stone? I love Joe but I think Tom could probably play circles around him at this stage of Joe’s career.

Yeh, I was studying Joe’s fingers carefully in the video, and I noticed that several times his fingers just went all spastic and he seemed to lose track of where he was on the neck. He was able to quickly get it back under control, but it was almost like he had a brief brain fart. I’ve been hanging out with a few really old people lately, like my 100 year old mother-in-law. They all have occasional brain farts, like can’t remember some name they’re trying to recall, or whether they took their pills this morning. Still, Joe pulled it off really well, like the first class musician he is. So I guess he remembered to take his pills.

Yup, that’s definitely Bukovac! He has talked about his stints going on tour with Walsh in a few of his episodes.

Don’t know if has anything to do with the situation in this video but Joe revealed recently that he deals with attention-deficit disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder and Asperger’s syndrome.

Hi Steve, great old musicians that you still enjoy listening to. I personally wish you a speedy and complete recovery. “Keep your chin up” (as they like to say in German in such situations).

Steve,
Life in the Fast Lane will do that to you. At 76, Joe can still rock like it’s 1969! Saw him with the Eagles a few times and he is a powerhouse.Mike

I hope your recovery is going well. And yes, Joe is still quite impressive. I’m glad you get to ‘chill’ and rock out. Be well.John

Just saw a quote from Joe, “It’s more fun to be in your 20s in the 70s that in your 70s in the 20s”.
He’s still rocking it, for sure. John, I’ve heard Tom Bukovac in videos talk about playing with Joe early in Tom’s career. He learned a lot being one of Joe’s sidemen for a while. Interesting stories.
Speedy recovery Steve! -

I don’t know Joe Walsh very well but I could clearly see the essence of a fine musician behind all those years performing.
