I recall during the September challenge, a number of members (including myself) commented that we were having issues with YouTube asking us to log in when attempting to play an embedded video.
Well, I think the issue is not YouTube, it’s Safari? I switched to Chrome, and wala – no more issues. I find issues with safari on a number of websites, and it’s baffling. So I think I am going to switch and make my default browser Chrome.
Hope this helps some other folks

Flipping into “angry old man” mode, I’d rephrase that as saying the problem is likely not safari but google 😄. It’s not totally surprising that chrome and YouTube work ok together as they’re both part of the google empire. Really google should be supporting all the common browsers not just their own.
Rant over and having got that off my chest it’s good to know that switching to chrome will work👍. Like all things, there’s pros and cons to switching browsers of course. -

Safari tends to comply with standards much better than the other browsers, particularly Chrome.
Google will happily make their stuff proprietary (and therefore not portable) if that gives them an edge. -

Try Mozilla Firefox. Chrome is famous for harvesting your personal data and trying to control your mind and body. I’ve been using Firefox on Macs for over 10 years with no problems whatsoever (it was designed for PCs originally). Since Firefox is open source software (power to the people), there are several apps that specialize in letting you download video and audio from Youtube.

Me too! My remark about compliance to standards come from my experience in the IT sector where application software needs to be compliant with all the various browsers. If your application is completely standards compliant it will work with Safari, guaranteed. For the other browsers, toss a coin…
My only complaint about Firefox would be that it tends to be a bit sluggish (and increasingly so, unfortunately). Every now and then Mozilla applies some heavy lift ups and the browser performance improves, but sooner or later new functionality will add again to the ballast and performance will degrade.
Where are the (fast and simple) Mosaic and Netscape browsers of my youth?
