This is me trying to play some Pete Townshend (The Who) riffs from Magic Bus and Won’t Get Fooled Again. I must admit that I stole these fair and square from Greg Koch’s video on how to play like Townshend (see below).
Funny, I don’t recall Brian ever doing any “In The Style Of” lessons on Pete Townshend, who is the awesome rhythm and lead guitar player in the Who.
Thanks,
Larry

Loved your Townshend’s style rhythm & riffs rendition, Larry, you really rocked with your guitar! Short & sweet (the way I tried do do it too) and very enjoyable to listen to!

Good stuff Larry – PT is one of the most repetitive players, to very good effect. Great submission.

Rad! Can’t go wrong with copying Greg! Got to see a clinic of his at my local shop, such an engaging and fun guy.

Fantastic submission, Larry – looked like you wanted to keep going with this 👏👏👏👍🎶😎
I’m currently considering recording my own cover of “Won’t Get Fooled Again”. This was inspired by being asked what songs I practiced Drums on, at a recent AM Zoom meeting – and I thought I should record one. I just love Keith Moon’s drum work – it’s more intricate than a lot of people give him credit for; it’s his crazy antics that many people think of, but he was a brilliant Drummer! So – a teaser 😂 – my version of “Won’t Get Fooled Again” may be coming to a store near you soon 🤣🤣🤣

Thanks, Mark. Looking forward to it! Have you ever seen the video of the Who live at the “Isle of Wight Festival” in 1970? Unbelievable!!

Now that’s a submission close to my heart. I’m with you, nothing’s more fun than this rock and roll rhythm stuff. Townsend is an amazing rhythm player to the point that his rhythm is pretty much a lead. As I’ve been discovering, muting is the key to keeping this stuff under control. You might enjoy the Brett Pappa course I used, Foundations of Rhythm-Classic Rock, it’s money well spent (hopefully the discount is still available).

You might not be a pinball wizard, but this sounded like the real Pete Townsend all right. It was a great example of a lead-off riff, and thanks to you I can now try to play it. Good work!

Great riff choice, Larry. I love Pete’s playing. Enjoyed the lesson too. I’ll be doing the windmill strum practicing the licks! 😀

To be fair and square, this was a dynamite of a riff!
I couldn’t name any of The Who’s songs but this sounded vaguely familiar. It doesn’t look easy since it’s so fast but good choice and well done, Larry.🎸JoLa

That was rockin’ and infectious Larry!! You captured a heck of a lot of feel in your 23 seconds. Amazing. The SG was a perfect choice in axe. And thanks for sharing the reference youtubes. Love it. Cheers, Tom
