I wasn’t sure how to approach this month’s challenge. I interpreted the task as “Create a song idea that would have a recognizable groove or melodic idea”. I think I’ve accomplished that, but I don’t know if this qualifies as a “hook”. Anyway, it is the seed of an idea that could be expanded upon into a more full song. I’ve used some open strings considered the nature of an acoustic guitar in coming up with this. I kind of like it, hope you do too.
Looking forward to hearing what you all have come up with!

I should think you do kind of like it – it’s a great composition. It has a thoughtful note choice and is played with feeling and a lovely tone.

Hey Michael, that’s really top shelp! The acoustic sound bombastic and yes, I can very well see this as the groundwork for a great ballad-type song.

Michael,
This is FANTASTIC. I love the riff. It’s a bit haunting but elevating as well. Yeah, this could be the basis for a song. Your tone is exceptional as well. You really did a nice job with this. Was a real pleasure to watch/hear. Thank you for sharing.JH

I like the combination of the atmospheric arpeggios with the grooving progression at the end. Well done!

Now that I really like front to back. Everything about it hits the bullseye to me.

This sounded very nice and was mesmerizing to listen to. It sounded open and airy and just, well, beautiful. Nice submission.

I like how you lead us into your composition with the arpeggiated chords and then the groove starts. And the sound of your acoustic is simply outstanding, Michael. You should make a song out of this. It’s a wonderful chord progression.

Very nice chord progression, with atmospheric and melancholic voicing, like that Dadd4 – F progression at the beginning (and many other very interesting progression and chords that I’ve to check listening again).
Brilliant composition, it could be easily become a great song. Very well crafted and played, Michael!Guido

Certainly “the seed of an idea” that I would love to hear developed into a full blown song 👍 I particularly loved the gentle and melodic opening, and was hoping you’d return to that, but it finished rather quickly – I wanted more 😂 Very well done 👍🎶😎

Don’t sell yourself short, this was indeed an excellent and pretty seed. You returned to that D(ish) chord (the theme) before modulating to a G. Where to from there?

Very creative piece of music, Michael. You’re not a basic one four five riff picking guitarist. I like the way you put together interesting chords and phrases. Sometimes dissonant sometimes melodic but it all comes out sounding great on your acoustic.

Quite lovely and creative! Very tranquil, like dewdrops on a fern.

Michael, you definitely achieved it, creating a melodic idea for a song. The light/shade from the melodic opening piece to the main body of strum work. Nice addition with the reoccurring open string idea. All round an exceptional executed package.

A wide-open landscape and the camera moves slowly through the scene. Maybe it’s also a bit rainy or foggy. Great atmosphere that you have created with your guitar. Thank you

Oh this is so nice Michael, pensive and relaxing music to sooth the soul. The recording of your acoustic is excellent.

Success Michael!! You not only created a recognizable groove AND melodic idea, you did so with your signature musicality. Your opening expressed both harmonic and melodic beauty and restraint – it was effective how you let it breathe. And your rhythmic strum portion was marked by rock steady bass notes and strum patterns. Very cool. Cheers, Tom

Ooh, that was great, Michael! Loved it, especially the dark-ish sounding arpeggios that slowly evolved into more, and of course, the use of open strings. The way you increased the volume towards the end was brilliant and left me wanting for more, as if the song was just about to begin!

Sounds awesome, Michael! Man, you have really advanced since joining Active Melody. The opening chord (arpeggio?) certainly counts as a hook. Pulled me in and had me captured from the very beginning. Your entire composition was so creative, contemplative in spirit with a beautiful, sweet melody throughout. Very well-played entirely with great emotion. The upbeat tempo using chords at the end seemed to resolve everything and cap it off.
Bravo!!
