This was something I started years ago and has always been in a state of revision. I never really play it the same way twice, but for this occasion I kind of finalized/completed it. Also, this is the first time that I recorded through my DAWS (mic’d up) and video simultaneously then sync’d it in my video editor. I am very pleased with the outcome. Hope you like-I think you can tell what my repeating riff or hook is. It comes at the beginning and repeats itself (in G). Recorded on my Martin 000-16.

Congratulations on completing your wonderful original, John. Love your blugrass skills. Acoustic guitar was made for certain things and bluegrass is right up there.

What a feather in the cap to be able to play bluegrass like that. Exceptional skill. 👏 It is a wonderful genre to watch and listen to. Congrats John on your completed composition and to have it showcased. You nailed it.

That’s some great pickin John! Images of old trucks on country roads, tall glasses of lemonade next to porch rockers, and apple pie on windowsills come to mind. Really nice sounding composition!

Brilliant composition and playing John. That was really nifty picking with some terrific (and fast) licks – you didn’t make it easy for yourself, but it was played to perfection. I don’t know why, but I laughed when you played the tag at the end – surprise I guess.

Since I am a member of Activemelody I learned to love bluegrass music. And the reason is because, it‘s so uplifting, positive and full of joy. And that’s exactly what’s true for your piece. You listen and feel good all around. Thanks for that, John

Hot stuff, John! I am just back from a week at bluegrass camp, so this is, pardon the pun, music to my ears. I could clearly discern your special lick and greatly appreciate you flatpicking. All it needs now is a banjo and bass in the background.

Great tune, John. You’ve honed those skills picking with your brother I’m sure. The recording sounds great.

Way to go John! I think you have arrived and been welcomed into the world of DAW recording. All you need to do now is grab your mandolin and lay down some cool mando licks on one of those empty tracks.

Hey John, you’ve got a great Bluegrass feel in your playing here… really captures the genera with style. My toe is tapping right along, the whole way. Love that this is an original for you, and glad you’ve now got it recorded.

Well, I never really listened to much bluegrass but if this is what it’s like I want more! A fine composition and performance John!

There are 2 things I’ll never do – climb Mount Everest and play Bluegrass anywhere near as good as you.
Your fingers were flying all over the board!
That was truly special John you should be immensely proud for not only coming up with that, but playing it with that level of precision.
Hat tipped.

That’s some almighty skills there, Johnny! I consider Bluegrass the most difficult style on guitar but I love to listen to that leading bass note and the exchange of note runs and rhythm chords. Such a blast, the composition you put together sounded perfect and solid, I can’t even imagine being able to play it so fast and so accurately. The years of playing rhythm with your brothers have made you an incredible picker. The recording sounded great, as if I was in the room with you, top notch!

Yep love a bluegrass tune and a original one at that , and can appreciate the difficulty in this style , you played some real nice runs and fills in this one , really like that one starting at 0.35 it adds so much momentum , the recording sounded very natural with the mic .
As mentioned the mandolin sound with this would work a treat 👌Martin

I like everything about your composition John – and listened more than twice! Love how you drive the beat (situation normal), keep the bass line moving, and insert rhythmic and melodic fills. I’m really inspired by your playing to get into some bluegrass. Great performance. Cheers, Tom

Awesome acoustic composition, John! Fast runs and great chord playing all the way through. I really enjoyed the different kinds of sounds and melodies you were getting and the way you combined them all together. Top notch and highly original!!

Excellent playing John. I haven’t listened to bluegrass for a long time but in my youth (that’s a while ago!) we had in Britain a guy called Johnny Duncan, I think an American GI stationed in England after the war. He had a couple of hits .. Last Train to San Fernando and I traced her little footsteps in the snow. He had quite a big influence on us budding guitar players at the time as I recall.

Hi John, excellent original bluegrass piece played perfectly! Your fingers were flying all over that fret board kind of like Billy Strings! Great tone from your Martin as well. Top shelf performance!!
