How about another “how to compose your own fingerstyle melody” lesson like LEG031? Using Chet Atkins or Merle Travers picking.
Maybe just a bit more advanced … throw in a walking bass line … but base it on a common melody as in LEG031.
Make sure to throw in a diagram or two this time.
Thanks!

The more I think about it … LEG031 is a VERY good lesson in alternate bass, cowboy chords Chet Atkins, Merle Travers picking.
I’d like to see another like it maybe with:
1. walking bass lines
2. more melody on strings E, B, GLike LEG031, build it around a simple common melody, then throw in some SUS 2 and 4 embellishments … and finally improvise over the chord changes.

Hi Ted, Here are some other Chet Atkins/Merle Travers picking lessons on offer with the lesson objective that may interest you as you progress with this style of playing.
ML003: Chet Atkins Fingerstyle Rhythm ….. Key E
In this MicroLesson learn how to play a Chet Atkins fingerstyle rhythm over an open E chord. This includes an E Shaped A chord and B chord on the 5th and 7th fret.EP057 : Chet Atkins Finger Style (Blues) Guitar Lesson ….. Key E
This is an original composition that has several Chet Atkins licks incorporated into a bluesy format and can be played on acoustic or electric guitar. If you’re new to fingerstyle playing (without a pick) and have always wanted to learn, this would be a great lesson to start with. It will be slow at first and even frustrating, but just stick with it and don’t try to play it fast – just try to be accurate.EP117 : Chet Atkins Fingerstyle Rhythm and Lead ….. Key E
This lesson is split into 2 very different parts. The rhythm guitar part is played using a Chet Atkins fingerstyle technique on acoustic guitar, whereas the lead guitar part is a bluesy lead played on electric guitar (so this is essentially 2 lessons in one). I don’t use a thumbpick when playing fingerstyle, but if you have one and are comfortable with it, I recommend using one. Most fingerstyle players use a thumbpick because it really makes those bass notes pop. I’ve just never been comfortable with one.EP202 : Fingerstyle Blues Rhythm and Lead ….. Key E
This is really 2 lessons rolled into one. You’ll learn a very cool blues fingerstyle rhythm (similar to something you’d hear Chet Atkins play). I’ll show you how to palm mute the bottom 3 strings and use your thumb as your “bass player”. There is a lifetime of fingerpicking in this one lesson! In addition to the rhythm, I’ve included a lead that is played with a pick (for those of you that aren’t into fingerstyle playing). So there’s something for everyone in this lesson.
EP550 : Chet Atkins Style Fingerstyle Blues – Guitar Tutorial ….. Key G
You’ll learn a fingerstyle blues composition that’s played in the style of Chet Atkins. This tutorial is more on technique than improvising. Once you have the technique, you can totally improvise. No jam track.Easy Travis Fingerstyle Blues – Introduction to Travis Style – Chet Atkins
This can be transposed to any key (no open strings). Onscreen tab included. Perfect for those that are interested in getting started with fingerstyle. -

Your list should also include EP’s 336, 319, 296, 081, 076 and 072 which are all very good fingerstyle blues lessons.
The difference is LEG031 teaches the guitar player “how to COMPOSE your own fingerstyle melody” for a tune that isn’t blues or fingerstyle to begin with.
In LEG031 Brian teaches things like how to choose the best key to take a common, simple melody line and arrange it for finger style and how to find proper chords for it and notes in the key when the notes in the melody don’t fit.
In LEG031 Brian started with Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star … and showed how to turn it into a very cool finger style piece.
I’m suggesting he do another lesson like it.

That’s OK, misread it to be the Chet Atkins fingerstyle you were wanting to explore.
Be patient the right lesson will come 😊.

Hey Laura,
I also wanted to thank you for the kind and helpful response!! You shared a couple I didn’t have on my list, like this one: Easy Travis Fingerstyle Blues – Introduction to Travis Style – Chet Atkins.
Being patient is one of the things that helped me get to be 73 years old. That, and eating ALL my vegetables.

Hey Ted
Congrats on eating your veggies – just like the Popeye said in the cartoons that we watched as children – I stay strong to the finish ’cause I eats me spinach…..
By clicking on on Fingerstyle Lessons under the Search Lessons – Lessons Category, you get several pages of lessons to look thru. Probably a lot that you can glean from each one

Keith,
When I looked at your reply … That big square with “Guitar Lesson Categories” in the center of it looked like an ADVERTISEMENT!!! and I blew it off.
I suppose I could be forgiven, these days ADVERTISEMENTS are everywhere, and I tend to ignore them as hard as I can.
Yes, I know about those categories, but just on a chance I overlooked something I went back and gave all of it a closer look. And there it was … GUITAR COMPOSITION. Inside there are 7 or 8 vids on exactly what I was looking for. One of the vids applies 7 rules to Three Blind Mice, as simple a tune as they come. PERFECT!
Thank you for your help Keith!

Hi Ted,
Brian’s done a few lessons on composing songs. EP372 is one that springs to mind but you can probably dig out others with a bit of searching of Laurels spreadsheet.
The Christmas songs often contain compositional elements too

Sorry … new guy here. Laurel’s got a SPREAD SHEET???
FAR OUT! I LOVE SPREAD SHEETS!
Looking over a spread sheeet will save TONS of time compared to the way I’ve been doing it.
Just where might I find this spread sheet?
Thank you so VERY much! I will get a LOT of use out of this.

Laurel,
THANK YOU! This is WONDERFUL … and there’s actually TWO of them!
I’ve taken the time to read them through and found a LOT of lessons I wouldn’t have found otherwise.
Speakin’ of which, I think you missed a spot.
I’ve gone through both .pdfs twice, and unless my old eyes are deceiving me, I don’t find THE LEGS!
LEG002 through LEG032 seem to be missing. I have found these vids to be VERY useful.
Thank you again for your help.

The LEG lessons are on another PDF with the microlessons and 5 BLG’s lessons. They will be included with the others in the near future. The issue being not wanting to exceed the upload limit with PDFS. Especially with the upcoming Ep600 milestone ahead. So hence why they are not included. But something has been workout to solve that issue so watch this space.
