Description
In this guitar lesson, I’ll show you how to play a Peter Green inspired rock blues in the key of A. This is really intended for electric guitar (but feel free to jump in if you’ve only got an acoustic). I’m using a Fulltone OCD pedal for overdrive on this one.

Bringing week was the lesson a bit late but this time it will early on a Saturday morning. I knew it to Brian’s work ethic is such: he wants to do everything as best as possible. Speaking of Peter Green - it was a clean hit. Best wishes from me Brian.
MJR1164 says
Another great lesson, Brian, thank you.
By a happy accident I started to have ago at this with my guitar left in Drop D tuning form the last time I played and discovered that you can get a great bass-ey call and response groove going by alternating the main riff with barring the bottom 3 strings and sliding from 5>7.
Once again, great job, Brian. Keep ‘em coming.

Love it, can’t wait to dig into this lesson. All of these lessons are great, but I would certainly welcome more Blues Rock lessons like this!

Amazing Lesson this week! I’ve been working on it all Saturday afternoon. I hope the speed will come. It is lightning fast for me, but you make it seem so effortless. Thanks Brian!

Great lesson, Brian. Anything in the style of Peter Green’s ” Need Your Love So Bad” would also be very nice. Thanks.

Need your love so bad is one of my all time favourites ,by my all time favourite guitarist Mr Peter Greenbaum .

Great lesson Brian! Kind of like SRV’s “Cold Shot” but without the “Raking” I never could get that technique down!
MONTEREY MIKE says
Nice “Accident” MJR1164, the Drop D adds a great base! Thanks,

I was thinking it is more like ‘Stranglehold’ by Ted Nuggent.
MikeG60 says
To me, this sounds a lot like *Spirit In The Sky* (1969-70) by Norman Greenbaum ??
That was also in the Key of A and iirc he used a Tele and Overdrive.
cunningr says
Great work out. Still working in the rythm, practiced until my hand cramped. I agree stranglehold feel.
sbondsrn says
Another great lesson Brian!!! Have you thought about doing something from Mick Taylor like Giddy-Up or Slow Blues?
cunningr says
Question on the rhythm. After the palmed down stroke on the open A you play up on the 7th after that due you mute the down stroke of the open A and 7th or not? I watched the video several times and can’t quit nail it down.
Brian says
@sbondsm - I added Mick Taylor to the to-do list - great suggestion
@cunningr yes you can mute the downstroke of that open A and 7th
cunningr says
Thank you for the note. I am still working to get that rhythm ground in, practiced again until I had cramps in my hand. I am not up to full speed but am getting a pretty good groove going. I am really enjoying the lessons, finally got calluses on my fingers again.

Again, I like the Quick Walk-Through bit you do. Very easy to pick up the lesson again.
Brian, do you prefer Rosewood or Maple neck? Just curious.
Brian says
@Soundbottoms - i like the look of Maple but the feel of Rosewood
Soundbottoms says
Roger that. Thanks.

Best thing about these lessons is that they keep me grounded. I can play most of the screaming solos but then come to a rhythm section like this and I struggle….good stuff.
Steve56 says
Hi Brian I am enjoying your lessons on Blues and rock Blues could you do a lesson with Peter Green in mind with the all time great instruments Albatross
