Description
In this lesson you’ll learn how to play a jazzy / bluesy guitar lead in the key of A. Something that you might hear an artist like Brian Setzer play. This has a big-band feel and would sound great with a horn section.

I thought I had it till I played the Jam track. Excuse me while I untie my fingers!
Awesome lesson as usual, I’ve definitely made progress since I became a member.
Thanks

Thanks, for the lesson, Brian. Just a thought. Is it possible that we can have a slower version of the jam tracks in your lessons as well? Just like Rock Star Daddy, I have problems keeping up with the tempo and a slower version of the jam track could be very helpful until things have sunk in.
Anyway, I like this Jazz Blues style, where you can mix major and minor, so a couple more of lessons in this style would be great:)

Don’t forget you can use the tab player and speed it up and slow it down however you like it!

Love the lesson! Thank you so much Brian
Brian says
@GtrCB - great suggestion. I meant to create a slower version initially and totally forgot. So anyway, now you’ll see there are 2 versions - (normal tempo, and slower tempo) - I brought the slower one down to 100 BPM, versus the 175 BPM of the normal.

Sounds great. Problem. I’m still working on the bass line from the Freddie King lesson. Could you post a couple of crappy lessons the nest two week’s so I can catch up? Thanks.

It’s a good lesson, and very helpful with the slower walk through. Perhaps you can do that from time to time?

Brian,I’m a new subscriber. I’ve learned more from you than I have from another web site, at a 1/3 of the cost. Thanks, I’ll be looking forward to more lessons such as this one.

Don’t you have any easier lead guitar lessons for intermediates? Everything is for advanced or else they’re too easy. I’m not chet atkins. Every lesson I try, I walk away defeated. Time for a new Hobby I think.

Don’t give up ochomarvo! Anything worthwhile is never easy to attain…you will feel a great sense of accomplishment when you get much better! 😉

I’m not, I was just tired..pushed myself too hard..sometimes you need to put it down . I . About got it now…I get grumpy when I’m tired :-)

anyone wanting to slow down tracks should buy Transcribe.

I’ve been using it for about 10 years and I find it the best app out there. and $40.
ochomarvo says
How long are you supposed to work on a lesson ? It will take a loong time to get this if ever. All the lessons are advanced. Should you work on one until you get it or as close as you can, or do you work on multiple lessons at once ? Frustrated here. I thought I was an intermediate player but I guess I’m not. I can play some stuff, hideaway which is an easy one tho, blues in the style of Texas flood, some bb king type stuff , but these lessons are hard and will take a long time. I’m not sure how to approach them or just give up and keep doing what I’ve been doing over the years.

Well sometimes I can spend 2/3 weeks on a lesson and tend to have 2 on the go at same time. The jj cale finger picking took me 4 weeks to get that alternating bass rhythm part, I’m a bit slow but perseverance does pay off even though I do feel like I’m never going to nail a piece sometimes and end up smashing the guitar up. No pain no gain man

Brian, this is another great lesson ! The additional explanations on scales and specific choice of notes and chords go a long way (for me) towards making sense of it all and path the way towards improvisation. Please, keep the great work. Am addicted to your site and your style of teaching !

Hey Brian. I love this Jazz Stuff & the Beat. Working on the Lead part. Would also Help if I Knew the 4 chords to play the rhythm . Could you just include them here. Thanks B…………..Brian

Hi Brian
The note that you mentioned you didn’t know where it came from.
You were playing major notes mixed with the minor scale in this lick, so I believe (F#) on the 4th string is straight out of the A major pentatonic scale.
Another example of mixing major and minor scales to give you that nice sweet sound.

G/day Brian,
