In this lesson, I’ll show you step by step how to play an original blues composition on acoustic guitar (played fingerstyle). Fingerstyle means playing without a pick, so the focus of this lesson will be on the right hand. You can play this delta blues / ragtime composition on either acoustic or electric guitar (although it sounds better on acoustic. Just printed out the new lesson, thanks Brian. After a long struggle barre chord are finally happening for me and it really lifts the playing to a new level. I would advise any “older” players that are having trouble to just hang in there and try doing them a few times a day, it is well worth the effort.

I really like this lesson Brian and would love to see a couple more in the same style. This one has all the Delta Blues elements with just enough ragtime thrown in to make it interesting but easy to play.

I agree with tafola. “Windy and Warm” is the fingerpicking tune that many first learn, ala Atkins/Emmanuel. I think that the tablature is pretty consistent with other activemelody lessons.

After listening to the demo in vid @1 it dawned on me that this sounds a lot like something Chet Atkins would have done. I guess that makes you a CGP-in-training or something 🙂

Your methodology really works. It is most helpful to me the way you work through songs note by note, Also the repetition within lessons is very helpful.
The slow walk through is also invaluable.
Could you make song title suggests where these techniques could be used?!?!?!?

Very Nice Brian !! I really like your methodology. You´re a great musician and a great teacher. But is it on the key of E ? That turn around includes C. and also there is a C7. Even including E major pentatonic there´s no C. But sounds great !!! I really like it. Is a Chromatic note ??
Thanks Brian for another great lesson, am new to fingerpicking but with constant practice the rhythm does become easier and fluent as you say.
Wonder if you can answer a question I have long puzzled over- as with you and other guitarists who have this great skill of playing fingerstyle on an acoustic guitar particularly using barre chords, are the guitars adjusted to give a very low action for this style ( hence easy playing) or is it an acquired strength in the hands which comes with experience and long practice.
