Spent the past week in Chicago taking in the Blues fest and some clubs. Big thanks to Don D. for turning me on to this artist. I told Jontavious I was going to post this and he asked me to say a big hello to you Don, this young man is only 22 and is a rising force in acoustic blues, amazing playing and stage presence. Sorry bout the shakey vid , lots of late nights and long days 🙂

That’s really cool, Scoot. He’s a fine singer and guitar player. Like his Gibson, too!
Not sure if live in Illinois, but I use to work at the Bismark Hotel there in downtown Chicago. The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete
It really is all about ”melody”. The melody comes from a language from our heart. Our heart is the muscle in music harmony. The melody is the sweetness that it pumps into our musical thoughts on the fretboard. 🙂 6 stringer Pete

Hey Scott, what a great week that must have been! I’m glad you got to hear Jontavious and talk with him. Yes, he’s definitely going to be around. He’s working on a new album, produced by Keb’ Mo’. If you don’t hear about it somewhere else, I’ll be sure to let everyone know about when it’s available.
I don’t know the rest of his schedule off the top, but he’ll be performing and teaching along with about two dozen other great traditional blues artists at the Augusta Heritage Center’s Blues and Swing Week, July 22 to July 28, down in West Virginia. I was booked to go but had to cancel, very disappointed. They’ve got a website with all the info.
That video is great, not too shaky at all, I added that to this list. Now that festival season is here, I bet there are a few more out there to find and add.

Here’s a picture of me and some friends hanging out with Jontavious when he was in town last year to play Central Park (opening for TajMo, Sunday, August 13). We were at the Machiavelli Cafe, where he played a smoking duet with pianist Arthur Migliazza. There’s a video of him playing “Trouble In Mind” from the following night at NAMA (New Amsterdam Musical Association, founded in 1904, it was the union for black musicians when the unions were segregated; the song is number 29 on the playlist posted above).

So Cool! I grew up going to those festivals in Grant Park. Saw so many amazing players there. I’m so envious, looks like you did it right Scott.
